I took the car in for "diagnostic checks" and they determined mine qualified for the TSB. Ironically the sound seems to be very random now.

As the weather cools down, you'll likely hear it less and less.

Just got my hpfp done no more cricket. Now the car seems to stall easier than before and odometer doesn't show what gear you in no more. Anybody got that problem?

just got mine done and no more crickets but i still have to the cel p0018 and i have to open a case with toyota..they want to rip the engine apart but i rather them change the ecu first because they start digging in because when i checked the fuel pump there was a screw that wasnt tightened, and a clamp that was missing so i had to fix it myself which makes me nervous on taking the car apart. Can anybody when they get a chance just take a picture of the hpfp because it doesnt look properly installed..i didnt have time to check while i was there because it was snowing and they were closing shop due to the snow...thanx guys

the cricket has come back after a few hundred mile. Should i take it back to the dealer to do another fix or just leave it this way ? the noise is really bothering me.

Call Scion. The dealer won't have a fix for you (neither will Scion, but they can document it for you).

So my best friend is a tech at toyota. i asked him to get the low down on the cricket TSB the report to the A techs says , there is no fix if the customer wants a new fuel pump. basically in quick terms "there is no fixed fuel pump give them the brand new still shitty fuel pump" but yes being documented would be good. but he said realistically youll just be annoyed since it will be the same exact part.

id say wait a few months till a true fix has been made. thats what i plan to do.

i havent heard of anyone having engine failure or fuel system failure due to the HPFP to immediately need the fuel pump change. i read its the plunger that squeaks correct me if im wrong but it could just be a normal thing for the DI in this engine to do i mean i have heard this exact sound in VW 2.0T FSI engines.

again i could be incorrect. ill try to scrounge up some more info from the A techs when i get a chance.

^This is the reason I plan on waiting until the spring, when my car comes out of hibernation to have this addressed.

Again, the clicking/tapping sound is normal for the DI system. The chirping is not.
