Every year the Bureau of Meteorology releases a calendar featuring a picture of extreme weather events around Australia for each month. The pics are about B4 size landscape. One of the pics in the current calendar was taken with an Iphone. It is only when you have your eyes very close to the picture that one can start to see lack of detail but when the calendar is hanging on the wall you would never know.

Yes, if you use the phone for what it can do, it's pretty good. Even better now with raw and lightroom on Android.

Today's post has been brought to you by the word compromise.

I went to a local lake today to try my hand at birds.

I found out the following:

If focus is set to infinity then I am stuffed if the target is too close but if I have the camera on normal focusing then best of luck trying to focus on a moving target.

Size: 209.0 KB

Given the very small aperture at long focal lengths getting shallow dof is impossible unless target is quite close.

Size: 601.7 KB

Name: DSC01468.jpg
Views: 377
Size: 534.7 KB

I'm glad I'm not using film. 130 exposures, I'll keep 5.

Given the size of the camera I am quite happy with some of the results. Something that irks me quite a bit is that many reviews of this camera have complained about how small the viewfinder is. Yeah, it is small but ffs, at least it has a viewfinder of some sort. I wouldn't want to be using the screen in sunlight.

Good work, that's a nice camera.

One shot for Jupiter and one for the moons. That's amazing that we can get the colors and wind banding.

I edited my post, that was in fact 6D and Tamron 150 600.
My try with 7D and 300 f4L was not as good.

I see stuff like that and think I really should get a "proper" camera.

Look at this pic: https://1x.com/photo/911903/latest:architecture
I almost weep at the clarity/sharpness of it.

Ah well.

Yes, nice one. The lens got a great flare control.

I agree..probably one of the sharpest/clear photos I've ever seen. Thanks for the link because now I know where to check out some amazing photos.

I'm sure the lens used here is ridiculously expensive.

BTW - anyone know the best place to sell old camera gear. I want to sell my old DSLR while I shop for a new one. Thanks.

A great lens cost like 800€ for non wildlife stuff (like 35A or 24A) . You can buy used too.
