I'd like to know how that works with our tracking since mine just says on order but your suggesting they see an estimated build date right away

that planet would be "WTF is my 86?" planet.

but i dont live on that one.

i am still amazed though how information disparities between dealerships exist and this goes from on site vehicle information to the tracking of the vehicle.

one dealer had glossy brochures for people with a deposit and the other dealership was just printing what i could already see on the web. when i saw that i bolted to the next dealership as to me that was a huge let down. a small thing but as a customer it speaks volumes for the level of professionalism the dealer/ sales staff has or doesnt have.

also the way staff speak to customers that range from "we know fark all of when we can get you a car, we know as much as you do" through to " at this stage delivery information is limited on this vehicle, we understand you would like to know more and we will do all we can to assist, once a deposit is placed them we will do our utmost to keep you informed" guess where i bought from?

i truly feel sorry for the TMCA staff during this period of the 86 release as i think empathy from a 86 buyer right now particularly, is like hens teeth.

Toyota Japan dropped the ball and unfortunately TMCA are the whipping boys.

Ask your Dealer for a copy of the order!! It's a simple A4 sheet they can print gives Batch [stock number] Status [mine A00 Batch entered] and 'Planned Production Month 11.2012' [as shown on mine]

It will also have the retail sales order number [first number you enter when accessing the 'Tracking' website, your name, address etc

Seems some Dealers are happy to just tale the order and forget you from what I read here, while guys like mOnty who I gather is a Sales Consultant are happy to try and explain things to all

As for me I'm lucky I have a Sales Consultant who is only too happy to answer all questions and get as much info as is possible

So I guess best to ring them or call in and ask for a copy of the Order for your records or ring and ask them to email it. My first was generated within minutes of placing the Order [Production month as current then wth TMCA, and again this week after the Order had been uploaded to Japan and went back one month]

Good luck!

Andrew, Apple is an example of a company that create products people want and has therefore tailored its retailing approach to be about maximising customer experience. Existing retailing methodologies and environments simply don't understand this. You're inside such an environment right now, and that naturally makes it harder for you to see the wood from the trees.

A good read on Apple's approach to retailing (including a clear answer to your question posed above) can be found here: http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2011/11/what...ng_the_ap.html

A quick read (a bit longer if you also read the comments, some of which are good) on what impartial informed analysts think of your industry can be found here: http://brontecapital.blogspot.com.au...r-dealers.html

It might not make comfortable reading. But you seem like the kind of guy who enjoys having his eyes open, not closed.

Delivery date brought forward again to next Wednesday (not sure if it's being a bit optimistic as it still has to get to FNQ). Enough for me to order my personalised plates and Lakin plate brackets though. Roll on next week.

I emailed my salesman how many more people had picked their 86 up from the dealer I bought from, and apart from GiR (member here) who was the first to get his, apparently no other orders are even close. I might try ringing some regional dealers up during the week to see if I can get one sooner. A long shot but worth a try I guess.

Dealer sent me a screen shot of the system showing a build date of September 17th. Web tracking is showing nothing. I am going be optimistic and believe the dealers info is good.

Nick

The Dealer information is more advanced than the 'Tracking' website and is updated quicker than your Tracking access

Well done!!

PS: What did you order and when?
