They work well in cool temperatures, don't like being hot (not a huge problem for autocross, since drivers can spray water on them between runs), sidewalls are *very* stiff, and they don't make any squealing noise before they let go into a spin. The ZIIs are supposed to have the same basic characteristics, just a little bit better. More evolutionary than revolutionary, as they say.

If the Evo School is as hard on the tires as I'm expecting, then I'll probably be running a set of shiny new BFG Rivals on the 17th.
Are you going this weekend? To alleviate wear, move tires front to rear after the first day. Do you want to about the Evo School curse, or do you think it will jinx you?

NASA is a fantastic way to get a lot of seat time and instruction to advance your driving skills. For those who have never been involved you will start off HPDE 1 which requires basic instruction and ride alongs with an instructor in your vehicle. You then go through a series of instructional periods and if the instructor feels you are ready you can advance to solo driving at the end of your first event (HPDE 1).

Thereafter you are signed off from HPDE 2-4 by an instructor who takes ride alongs with you to essentially prove you are ready for the next level. Instructors are pretty much always available during events that can assist you in refining your skills in preparation to advance to the higher level HPDE if that is your goal. Each time you advance the leash is basically lengthened in regard to what you can and cannot do. Some people want to remain at specific HPDE levels or even those who may be more advance will track their vehicles in the lower levels (typically slower) to further refine skills.

There are a lot of good ways here local to get better at driving but imo NASA is hard to beat, especially if you want to become the best you can in the vehicle you will actually be driving all the time.

In short it is worth every penny you will spend however, it is more addictive than you may expect so it can get expensive quick as you go through tires, pads, wheel bearings, gas, registration, and membership.

A curse? Sounds exciting. Usually I end up jinxing myself. I did remember to add lug nuts to my checklist this time.

To blatantly steal from the AZSolo forums:

It looks like the PCA Southern AZ club will be holding a driver education event at Indie Motorsports Ranch on April 13th and 14th. No Porsche required, apparently.

The curse is being slow for a few events. I attribute it to overconfidence which provokes overdriving.

indeed, I am not yet convinced I need to have heavy 255s either
I went with r888 in 225 also 8.7" wide contact patch, 24lbs combined with a 15.5 lbs rim will be plenty quick, should have enough stickyness. Lets see if it can exit corners now.

255s offer up an inch more width, but does it benefit me, or slow me down, remains to be seen. Only want as much tires as the chassis will take advantage of.
