http://dmv.ny.gov/org/about-dmv/chap...ing-conditions

"The law requires you to use your headlights from one-half hour after the sun sets to one-half hour before the sun rises, when visibility is less than 1,000 feet (300 m) and when you use your windshield wipers to clear rain, snow or sleet. Turn your headlights on at dawn, dusk and in fog. Even when headlights do not help you see in low-light periods, they make it easier for other drivers and pedestrians to see your vehicle. Do not use parking lights or daytime lights as a replacement. Headlights do a better job. If an oncoming driver flashes headlights at you during a period of low visibility, it means your vehicle was difficult to see, and you should turn on your headlights."

So it looks like my comment about using parking lights is actually illegal. Which also means that relying on a mod to effectively give you parking lights full time in situations where you are concerned about visability is also illegal in NY. If you are worried about people seeing you, you need to use your headlamps.

Sounds like it saying you cant use parking lights or DRLs to REPLACE headlights during low visibility. I dont think having them on otherwise is an issue.

That may or may not be true, I can't find a specific law in NY that states either way but the person I quoted wanted the module to be modified so that it serves to illuminate the tail lights because he was concerned about rear visibility during dawn hours when auto headlamps turn off. In that case the law seems pretty clear that you should be using your headlamps still because visibility is less than 1,000 feet. If visibility isn't the concern then why would you be running with your lamps on other than cosmetic reasons?

I did come across a California state law that states you can't run parking lights while driving.

"No vehicle may be driven with only parking lights on. However, parking lights may be used as signals or when the headlamps are also lit."

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1...dl648/dl648pt7

It's clear that the laws vary from state to state and I'm not suggesting that people should or shouldn't do it but what I am suggesting is that it makes your vehicle more conspicuous. That may be a good thing when you are trying to be more visible but if its illegal it may give the police a reason to stop you.

All of this is really moot because its outside the scope of this product. The taillights are on a completely unrelated circuit and diode dynamics modifying the product to serve a function that we already have, flipping a switch on the stalk, seems a bit silly and would add unnecessary costs and delays to the product.

Ah ok, I wasnt sure if you were including the boomerangs when talking about having parking lights on. Since those do turn on (along with the side markers and tails) when you have parking lights on.

I could see why full parking lights might be an issue since the side markers would be on and people parallel to you might think you're signaling a turn.

Boomerangs definitely shouldnt be an issue. Tails... maybe, but like you said, its out of scope.

Oh definitely not referring to the boomerangs. I've been on the waiting list for quite some time as they only serve as a cosmetic purpose and I quite like them

Yup running without side markers is part of the mission. I want people to KNOW I'm there so I like to have tail lights on all the time. This car is pretty low and compared to all the trucks and overgrown suv's and livery cabs in the NY metro area anything you can do to help yourself be noticed is a good thing. In some cars tails are part of the DRL's so I thought it would be nice. Whatever, I can just run the running lights.

Yeah CA and NV are both headlights or nothing, you can't drive with running lights on or they will actually give you a ticket.

Just to provide everyone an update:

Production is being completed, our stack of finished modules has started piling up. We will be finalizing installation instructions early next week, and shipping by end of week.

As always, we appreciate everyone's patience. We want to make sure we have enough when we launch so that no one is left waiting.

They have not started selling them yet. And Since DD took over the waiting list has been abolished. People seem to have missed that. DD said they are making more than enough to satisfy everyone on the list and many more once they are ready for sale.

DD provided OP with an updated list last month, not sure how often it's been updated since. But yeah, should be plenty to go around.

Yea I think the list was updated at that point so they had a better idea of how many to make. It's not like a pre-order list or anything.

If visibility was your concern then why would you want to get rid of a federally mandated light? Side markers help with side visibility. I'm just saying that what you want makes no sense for the reasons you are saying.
