Can we get more pics of how that Sard wing looks on your car? Been considering the Sard wing with the TRD Japan lip spoiler but most people are doing it with the RS1.0 spoilers and yet to see it done with the TRD JP

DIY Homebrew Oil Cooler

Some of the pieces showed up for my homebrew oil cooler setup!

Its only a 10 row oil cooler... The rest of the parts come in tomorrow. Should have it all installed by Saturday with some autocross testing on April 24th, and a track day on April 29th.

Oil cooler install was successful! Although I think the thermostatic plate is rated to 160 F, which is quite low for our climate here. On what we would consider to be a warm day of 15-18* C, the oil temps would hover around 73-75* C (~160 F) on the highway.

I guess cardboard it is! Until I go to the track, or until we start seeing 25* C and up weather.

On another note, I rebuilt my splitter out of aluminum composite (Polymetal), and cut some holes into my hood. (Post to follow)

DIY Hood Vent

Decided to cut some holes into my hood to help with exhausting heat this season. I really liked the Velox hood louvers, but the budget is tight this year and I would rather put that towards more seat time rather than parts.

If I pick up another hood, I think I would eventually get the Velox pieces. With how easy it is to cut the hood, the Velox louvers are actually quite nice.

The new splitter material can be seen in the next few pictures.

Materials

- Aluminum flat bar
- Aluminum angle
- M6 hardware
- Automotive rubber edge trim

Tools Used

- Angle grinder w/ 5" 1mm zip disk
- Drill with ~6mm drill bit (will vary w/ hardware)
- Hammer
- Vice/Table to assist with bending

Pulled off the hood

What it should look like

Marked out the location of the relief holes

Drilled out the holes

Marked out the lines

And went to town with the zip disk!

Made some relief cuts to allow for the bend...

Cut the aluminum flat bar to length with the zip disk, drill a couple holes, and bolted it in place! It was a bit too long, and I had clearance issues with the intake so I ended up making it a bit smaller than pictured...

With the aluminum angle sandwiched in place to act as wickers

[/url]DSC_0764 by joeag., on Flickr

Painted black.. but I actually ended up making another set out of 1/4" tall angle.

Tried to do some testing without the wickers

DSC_0791 by joeag., on Flickr

And did some more testing with wickers

Decided to cut another hole just behind it. No pictures of the process, but it was very similar... Also installed some automotive rubber edge trim for the street. Wickers can be sandwiched into place for track days/autocross.

And now to polish the hood...
