I use the nav almost every day. Works great IMO.

Just tried to build one, and it does not show any upgrades under package. That is strange. Maybe how they dropped the price.

Too bad..I like the navigation in my '13 BRZ. Guess that makes the original '13-'15s that much more valuable!

This would be your best bet, Pioneer and multiple others offer both android auto and carplay on the same device. Hopefully in the near future both will come preinstalled from the factory to compliment Subarus own software.

I have been contemplating ordering a 2016 model year because they dropped the navigation offering. I like the other new features the Starlink head unit offers but why would they drop the navigation? It makes no sense. At least make it an up-gradable option. I would be more than willing to pay for that upgrade.
I was thinking of finding a 2015 model year since navigation is standard. However, I have watched some videos on YouTube on how laggy and inaccurate the Subaru OEM navigation is in the 2013-2015 head units. The other option would be to buy a Garmin or Tom Tom and use that for navigation but I hate the clutter of navigation and phone mounts since they obstruct vision. Not to mention dismounting them when parking for long periods (to prevent people from being inclined to break into your car and steal items). When you see other car manufacturers starting to offer Apple and Android car play as options, sometimes standard from the factory (like the upcoming 2016 Civic) with more options for apps and excellent navigation, it kinda turns me off right now on buying a 2016 BRZ due to what is being offered. I hope Subaru makes some changes and offers the larger Starlink head unit with navigation as an option in the future for the 2016 model year BRZ. |

Don't get me wrong, I love aftermarket units and have been installing them for years in my cars, especially Pioneer electronics. But being this might be a "brand new" car for me, I don't want to mess with anything aftermarket being installed, especially electronics that might void my warranty if any issues that involve electronics come up. And, I definitely would not let a car audio shop do the install, too many horror stories of gouged interior panels, amateur unsafe wiring, and unnecessary holes being drilled here and there. |

Thanks for the input. I'm less than experienced in the world of car audio. But re: nav, isn't that what android auto is for? That way you don't need the HU to have GPS.

I know Pioneer had (pre-2014), and currently has "AppRadio" which was before Android Auto came out, for most of their head units. However, AppRadio only allows certain iPhones and Android phones to work with the head unit to do a similar function that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now does. Pioneer recently released new head units this year that now have Android Auto and AppleCar Play (mainly their "NEX" head units), but these cost $700+. I guess you have to pay to play. https://www.android.com/auto/ http://www.pioneer-carglobal.com/en/AndroidAuto/ |

Yeah, they're spendy, but considering that the Harmon Kardon Nav package for a comparable model like a WRX, is $2100, it's not that bad.

Nav is something you either use it a lot or not. Also, if all the stories have told us anything is that these dealership don't know much about our car, and they will do anything to sell a car.
I've personally seen a brz sitting in the dealership with AWD sticker on it. |
