This is what I've been thinking as well, that the 1st gen twins can go for 7 years (or until the car no longer can meet emissions and safety regulations).

An STI tuned Alcyone / SVX is a very interesting proposition indeed.

Guys... he said performance, not power. This all falls directly in line with STI coming to America instead of the crap SPT offerings SOA have.

Well there are enough 2 and 3 year old clickbait articles being thrown up as current "proof" on this thread that we know there will always be people that believe them.

I think internally Subaru faces the same doubts again as they decide whether and how much to invest into a second generation BRZ.

Personally I don't think they make that leap of faith unless they have another partner to split development costs with. For example, if Toyota decides they want to partner with Mazda or forego a partner for the second generation GT86, I just can't see a relatively small company like Subaru deciding to release a second-gen BRZ on its own. It would be a high-risk, low-reward endeavor. A lightweight NA RWD coupe just doesn't fit their business model, and a turbocharged version would cannibalize their WRX/STI sales.

I could be wrong, but that's my take on Subaru's position at the moment.

I agree to this. So many forget how small of a car company Subaru is in comparison to most household name brands.

The sad part is some day they will guess right and I still won't believe them until Toyota or Subaru issue a formal press release. Then 500 people will scream "I told you so" and I will have to hang my head in shame.

New details emerging about the new Supra / Silk Road Project between Toyota and BMW:

http://www.motoring.com.au/news/2015...r-emerge-52647

Jalopnik highlighted this part of the article this morning:

"A Toyota insider has told us details of the development mule were held under lock and key by BMW, the company in charge of chassis development for the joint project. Our brief chat with this source revealed the surprising frustration that Toyota engineers appear to be feeling with regard to the details of their sister car. He said only a precious few at Toyota are privy to the fundamentals of the two cars."

Well at least the new Supra is happening, it's going to be BMW engineered chassis and turbo engine + Toyota hybrid tech and bodywork (like how the twins were arranged). Maybe they'll even throw in a free water pump in the trunk with every new purchase.

If this partnership with Bimmer blows up in Toyota's face, then I guess the twins might have an extended lease of life ahead with Subaru.

@krayzie
I don't see how this has to do with SOA saying the BRZ needs more power (performance enhancements)

Motoring.com.au ----> Notoriously inaccurate info.

Also, note, the new Supra and the new 6 series coupe are essentially going to be the same chassis (and powetrain). BMW has skin in this game, they can't just do a shit job and Toyota gets screwed. Both their asses will be on the line.

Here is my opinion and it is worth absolutely nothing.

They ought to make a new class of car and use this as the base model.
They should add the following features:

1) Battery assist ala the McLaren P1
2) A Turbo charger
3) A Flex fuel system and tune

Obviously beef up the areas that need beefing up (fatter tires, fatter ass, tranny, etc) and then they need to target about 450 HP at the $50K range.

That's my opinion and like I said - it is worth nothing.

It should be marketed as a supercar for the working man.

I'd love them to throw a turbo on it, then we could do the same to the race car and give the other guys in our class a run for their money.

Just gonna throw my opinion into the mix. While a lot of younger people want a car with more power and it's lack of it turns them off, a jump in the price would turn them off even more. There's a reason mustangs and camaros are insanely popular amongst younger people, they're basically the fastest cars you can get for the least amount of money, and the genesis is quickly joining that group. While my easily swayed opinions would love to see this car become faster, I could guarantee if it jumped more than $3,000 then I would no longer be a prospective buyer. I don't think I'd be alone, either.
