Just got my BRZ (manual of course) but havent been behind the wheel of a manual in 8 years. A lot of you are saying to start in 2nd gear in the snow or maybe rain, what kind of effects on the car does this have? I'm worried about burning the clutch up by doing this. Any insight from people that know what the hell their talking about is much appreciated.

Not worried. Past RWD winter car history:

1998 Pontiac Trans-Am, LSD, nearly bald all-seasons (I was young and dumb)
1981 Buick Regal, open diff, old all-seasons
1993 Lincoln Mark VIII, e-diff (sorta), all-seasons
1986 Toyota Corolla, open diff, new all-seasons

Going from those to a well-balanced, LSD-equipped car with good snow tires? Should be a lot of fun.

Its not about the car, its about the tires and the driver.
