For perspective, I put a thousand miles on the Michelin OEM's and 2000 so far on the Continental DW's. So far all air temps while driving have been between 85 and 100 F.
With that said, I feel they are quite different. Counterintuitively (due to the reduced sidewall), the DW's ride is more plush, you lose a little bit of road feel, and expansion joint impacts are less jarring, but they are silent and well-planted on turns and at speeds that would have the Michelins shrieking. Much less "twitchy" on the rain-grooves of the local freeways than the Michelins. Overall, handling is somewhat less crisp and "twitchy," giving an illusion of somewhat less response, but the car goes inch-perfect where you want it, and grips extremely firmly. I feel like it *might* be a little slower on a slalom, but way more capable in, for example, decreasing-radius turns. These Continentals are perhaps not the tires you want if you want to stay very tail-happy, drifting and howling through every corner. They really don't howl or slide nearly like the Michelins. They are great if you want to keep up a quick pace on public roads in the twists with more limited drift and no surprises, even with the nannies turned off. |
