If I were in high school and someone drove an fr-s there, well, there sure would be some animosity and a 'look at this @$$hole' jealousy going on.

OP, don't listen to these people who think your son shouldn't have a hot car. That's just jealousy. People who don't get what they want always think other people shouldn't have it either, because that's not "fair." It's not "fair" that your kid is driving a nice car when some have to ride stolen bicycles. Waaah! It's not fair! Where's the government to level the playing field? The school should ban your kid's car!

Those people need to mind their own damned business.
I agree, jealousy is a sin and everyone has a "right" to own and/or drive what they want. With that being said, sometimes it is good to be a realist. Many people like to say that kids are different today than they were 30 years ago. Personally, I don't believe that. One only has to read Shakespeare to realize that people have been the same for thousands of years. Long story short, I would never send my kid to school with a nice car and then get upset when some punk(s) vandalize it. If you're worried about this stuff, then you only have a couple of options. One is drive what you want and be willing to deal with scratches/dings/dents as they come. The other is to minimze your risk by driving a beater or not taking a car at all. To expect that human nature is going to change overnight and everyone is going to stand around the campfire holding hands singing koombayyah isn't going to happen.

Just to be clear, as I mentioned in my first post, I hate vandals and/or thiefs. That's why I park my car as far away from everyone as possible and even then I know that when I leave it unattended that there is risk of something "bad" happening to it. In the end it's a car and I have other things in life to worry about.

I have never had anything negative said or done to my car.

Could it possibly be that your son is a douche and pissed some people off?

Could it possibly be that some of you people who have had their cars vandalized, pissed someone off?

Nah, that couldn't be. Your cars get messed with because people are "Jealous".

You can buy your kid a nice car, there's nothing wrong with that. I dont think 53driver is jealous as he is a realist. Kids are stupid, and do stupid things. I was there, and so where you. We didnt fuck with other kids cars because we were all car lovers from the beginning, but a lot of kids aren't.

Thanks for all your insights!!! Damage to property is a crime regardless of age, gender, or generation. Luckily technology may be on our side if the video survelience did its job. All I want is the dents removed. I believe only one person is doing this. Hopefully find out more this afternoon?

That sucks that your car was vandalized. Unfortunately it's not just highschool kids that are this immature and do these things. I park in a garage with graduate, medical, dental, and hygiene students on top of doctors (professors) and still had classmates have their tires slashed, windows broken. The security guard at this garage is a joke and not effective at all. Cameras don't cover every possible angle.
It's a sad reality of life that people have to be on the lookout for such behavior.

It's for this exact reason I arrive on campus 30 minutes earlier and park in an edge spot of the lowest level, in the farthest parking place.

You're over thinking this and you're spending way too much mental energy. Like others have said, let it go. Get your son beater for driving to school because:

A: Highschool kids cause damage. Period, end of story.
B: Highschool kids know that under the age of 18 they can kinda do what they want, especially if they have parents that don't do much parenting and these kids definitely cause damage.
C: Remember that scene in The Dark Knight where Alfred says to Bruce: "Some people just want to watch the world burn." That pretty much describes a lot of high school students who suffer through the everyday emotional torture that is...other kids. So these kids too... damage stuff, not out of spite, not out of revenge, just because they enjoy damaging stuff.
D: Think back to when YOU were in highschool. One kid had an MG so 10 of us pick his car up and hid it behind a dumpster. Took him an hour to find it, thought it was stolen, we laughed so hard that day. Why? Because high school.

Basically if someone asked me to list 5 reasons "why we can't have nice things", I would put high school kids on that list. Your kid might be an angel, just like everyone's kid is an angel but in reality... nobody's kid is really an angel.

Buying a brand new car for a high school kid to drive to school is a bit silly. Heck, I wouldn't have bought him a nice car until after college. College kids, especially on college campuses, are another reason why "we can't have nice things." Maybe #4 on the list.

Can replace "chatter before company" with texting. Hard to find any teenagers that "chatter" anymore unless you count the hitting of keys as chattering.

i hate these scenarios so much. my junior year in highschool was a sh** show because of kids like this. my car got pissed on, glass bottles in the muffler, shoe prints on the trunk, writing in the dirt on a black car, the list goes on.

and it was only my first week at the highschool. nobody knew me. just the fact that there was a nice car they didnt have.

jealousy is a horrible thing.

lucky for them i never found out who did all of it

I feel pretty safe at my high school. On the other hand a kid's porche was had "Rich Kid" etched into his bumper last year (I heard the owner was a bit of a snob, so that might have been the motive). Good thing that alot of the kids there are nice and no bullying has been reported in years.

Edit: Someone at school put a drop of glue-like material on my hood. Luckily I had a clear BRA.
