I'm so glad I still have my Xterra for hauling the bikes and gear!
Cyclists get pretty creative though. In my road racing days, we fit 4 bikes (front wheels off), a dozen spare wheels, and camping/ride gear for 4 people in the back of my little Mazda pickup. 3 people in the front. |

ahhh DAMN, i had them both in my car again this weekend, but forgot to take a picture, but exactly how you said, all 4 wheels removed and wedge em back there, its helps that both of my frames are on the smaller side of the scale i'm sure

This is the thread that sold me on my car
My 60cm Devinci fits fine, as long as I remove both wheels and wrap the rear derailleur in a plastic bag in case of accidental touching. I could lay the wheels in the back, but being spastic about such things, they ride up front with me..... I'd freak if a spoke rubbed into the carbon fiber!!!

Hello from Germany everyone, old thread but so useful!
First of all thank you very much Brett for opening this incredibly helpful thread, and thank you to all those who posted here such valuable information. As owner of 14 bikes, this thread help me immensely with the decision of buying my GT86, 6th day of ownership today :-) I thought it was my duty to share here how I fitted my big TT bike inside the GT86. Please excuse the quality of the pictures (old phone + dark garage), hopefully they are good enough... About the time trial bike: Cervélo P3 2015, size 58, UCI legal, BB to top of saddle 82.5 cm. Requirements: A. Not changing, turning or removing the saddle, seatpost, base bar or extensions. B. All the parts of the car stay inside the car (as you'll see some can be left in the garage/cellar, I personally prefer to have them all in the car). ![]() Problem: In a TT bike you can´t turn the handlebar 90º like in a normal road bike so it doesn't fit. Even if you could turn it the extensions would be even higher. It could fit with a 38cm basebar (total width). ![]() Solution: 1. Remove the trunk cover/carpet from the car and put it back in upside down. This will protect the back seats from damage or dirt with a surface you'll never see (on top I normally add a waterproof sheet though). ![]() 2. Turn the foam box 90º so the basebar fits in the long hole. ![]() DONE! ![]() There is plenty of space left for two sets of wheels and the sports bag. ![]() The package of this car is a masterpiece of engineering. |
