Its that illusion of low end torque that makes the WRX feel much faster but it had no top end power. WRX handles way worse at autoX not even close there.
Gas mileage for me:

WRX got 19 city/26 highway.
BRZ gets 27 city/32 highway.

No change in insurance.

That is true alot of that is that low end torque and the brz is way better around the corners. For some reason my insurance is a lot higher on the WRX, a lot higher about 1.5 of the brz. Might need to switch companies. Unfortunately due to mods and mostly driving habits my wrx mpg is shit lol, but that's probably mostly my fault.

I used to live in colorado, and honestly I would not drive a rwd car if I was still there.

I had a 2006 STI a few years ago, and the engine and acceleration was awesome, all stock. My FR-S is WAY slower, but basically I'm pepping it up to make it drive more how I like it. (Lightwieght drivetrain parts for now, maybe a basic tune.) You'll feel after a few months that Toyota/Subaru were such pussies when they tuned this car. So if you aren't SURE you want the FRS and know EXACTLY what it's about, you might end up getting rid of it pretty soon also.

My STI always pissed me off though b/c it had 300bhp and it couldn't slide around turns, and it had crazy understeer past the limit. I had a 2001 S4 before that with even worse understeer.

So I needed a car like the FRS without understeer. I'd never get it if I lived in a snowy place. But other people said the aids really help a lot so maybe it could work.

I traded my 60,000 mile 2004 WRX STI for my 8,000 Mile (At the time) BRZ. The absolute only downfall is less power. And quite frankly, I don't even miss it at this point as the BRZ almost has more useable power (A lot less drama to get up to speed we'll say, at a normal rate). Now, a WRX is going to be more comfortable and quieter then a 04 STI (04 STI's had no sound deadening...etc) but really, I never purchased my STI for BMW Fit and Finish. My STI achieved 21 MPG no matter how I drove it. Drive like an asshole? 21. Drive like a Grandma? 21. My BRZ rewards me with 28 MPG on my mixed commute. On a 28 Mile drive one way to work, that's a big deal.

Once I figured out the BRZ's powerband I never looked back.

the WRX maybe roomier, more power and ect. but I think they are ugly.

just base on looks. FRS > WRX.

we have alaska drivers up here with studded tires. it works great with studded tires. its not so bad on blizzaks. you will be suprised what people drive up here. take it with a grain of salt as these cars I have seen are only on city streets. Now my WRX with Blizzaks in the country side , i have no problem.

LOL. Best car I ever had in the snow was 2001 audi s4. Somehow it had amazing traction, I would drive up mountain passes in blizzards in pure luxury while trucks were stuck on the side of the road.

IMO, I always thought WRXs were ugly looking cars.
