sorry guys, i kinda hate poeple that do that kind of things...BUT, seriously, this is what they call capitalism.

we CANT be mad at someone trying to make money on something that is on high demand. thats what ebay is for.

i remember when the x360 first came out, i was dying trying to find one in store somewhere, none...but tons were available on kijiji, ebay, etc...for the double of the price. i was really mad, thats why i will never do that.

but again, we cant really be mad at this guy trying to make profit on an objet he own.

We expect it from a dealership, it's the game. It is not so much what he is doing that bothers me, it is the manner in which the guy went about it that rubs me wrong, it just shows poor character. I totally agree. It is just adding insult upon injury to be posting how he just stumbled onto this car and now he wants to flip it for a profit. If my intention was to flip it for a profit (not saying I would ever sell it,unless a supercharge/turbo version came out), I would not go on this board and gloat. I agree it is his car and he can do whatever he wants, but that is low.

On another note. I can not see anyone willing to pay an extra 10k for a used car even though it was one of the first 86. Unless you got the 1st one (Pekingduck), who cares about number 2 to 86. I havent read any other 86ers getting any kinda of special plating on their cars. So 5 years from now what difference does it make? I could see someone paying and extra 10k for the very first one though, just not the rest. I say good luck trying to find a sucker willing to pay that much to own average joe's sport car.

I'm just laughing silently because he's wasting the money listing it in the first place. Good luck, buddy!

GLWS, idiot.

Keep car, loan it to aftermarket companies, get free parts, sell excess parts or those you dont want or friends dont want, pocket the money...you're only gonna make ~5k after taxes anyway

Haha. I worked at Gamestop for both of these releases. Funny to think now that both those were the wrong choice - the Wii was the real breadwinner to flip - for YEARS! I originally took it a bit personally when I knew the customer in front of me was just going to flip it. But frankly, it was the customers who called the most, waited for the UPS guy, and tried the hardest who were able to buy a Wii - and were the ones who planned to sell it. If that's what you want to do, to each their own!

He's not doing a very good job of trying to actually make a profit on it. I mean, he is DDing the car and it already has 230+ miles on it. If he were trying to portray it as rare and a collectors item, he should probably leave it in the garage. It is disappointing to see someone try to sell what so many people want just because he can make a buck on it. Sure, he could go buy a regular one after and have a handful of cash in the process, but it kind of sucks that he made that move. That's what will happen any time you have something of limited availability.

That kind of thinking didn't stop plenty of suckers from paying that much more for a first model year PT Cruiser or VW New Beetle!

The process of the First 86 Revised!!!

Here we go! I feel that each of "First 86 FR-S" should be going to the people who were chosen. If one of the "First 86 FR-S" can't take delivery on the vehicle whether financial reasons or didn't like it... It then should be turned over back to Toyota & go down the order of the list of who applied into that program.

Example: Dadhawk didn't want to take his "First 86", cuz he changd his mind. Now there's an FR-S sitting around to be bought. Right? Rather than any regular joe shmoe coming to buy it, Toyota is notified & the vehicle is offered to the person who was next in line who didn't make the cut. Mr. #87, #88, #89, #90 & etc...

That should be the process that should have been followed. For the real enthusiasts who will cherish & pass this vehicle on to the generations. For the person who watched this forum site everyday smiling at each news feed. That is what I believe is right!

He will regret letting go a peice of history down the road.

You know whats funny about that. While we were camping out there someone from Nintendo came to best buy to let us play the Wii the whole day. I distinctly remember thinking it was way more awesome than I thought it was going to be and saying to my friend "Dude I think we're in the wrong line". Turned out I was right. Took us forever to get a Wii too. Now it just sits in my basement collecting dust.

Agreed. We don't know the full details on exactly what happened here, but I think (and hope) it was the dealership that made the mistake of selling the car to a random customer.

I don't think it was a dealer mistake. Once it was on their lot, consigned to them, and the original buyer backs out, they could do with it what they want.

My dealer all but told me that. They had my VIN mixed up with a second unit they are receiving next week. They said they would sell me either (the second had a lot of preinstalled options on it, including BeSpoke I didn't want, and a much higher VIN) but either way they would sell both of them before the sun set on them if I turned it down.

That's what happened to the VIN 0001 65 Mustang (at least according to the legend). It was on a lot as a factory demo, someone came in and offered the dealer a bunch of money for it, and they sold it. Once the bill of sale is done, it can't be undone.

In the seller's thread, we pieced together that it was a First 86 car that was declined when it arrived. Likely someone that had no means of purchasing the car in the first place, but signed up anyway in the hope that they'd be able to get some free stuff (and they did.. a trip to Cali).

Another difference between the 85 and the 1, is (at least in my case) I wouldn't have turned it down through the dealer. I would have contacted corporate and asked them to transfer it to the next person on the list. The dealership wouldn't have known until I knew what the real plan for them were.
