Exactly.

And I loose receipts all the time, that's a moot point. Me thinks dude ruined his motor and is looking at a 2k bill to fix it but is trying to play it off. My local dealer had a relatively new Impreza wrx sitting at their shop that a guy blew up after he boosted it. He was posting all over CL that the dealer screwed him and broke his car and he was stuck with it and was trying to part it out. The dealer got wind of the CL postings and had his car hauled off and he got served with legal papers for going around trashing the dealer. Just saying, people sometimes embellish, the story makes no sense. There is more to this story than a missed oil change. Example, I took my 13 tundra in for a warranty issue with an air pump tsb, I was 1300 miles over on the oil change that I get free for 2 yrs. By this logic Toyota should have told me they would not fix the tsb and/or void my warranty because I was late on the oil change

The most common cause of catastrophic engine failures like yours in my experience (note the MY experience) is bad installation of piston sets. Could be a broken or missing snap ring, could be a bad part from the supplier, or the piston pin/rod/piston may have been mismatched. Tolerances are tight and the wrong rank of any of those three things usually ends badly for consumer.

Would they gave to touch the pistons in order to change a coilpack

Not unless they pulled the spark plug. You never know man a broken piston could be something as simple as a part that got dropped into the intake. My post was simply my own experience with early catastrophic engine failures.

Certainly the sample is skewed because people post about issues on forums and many buyers go without ever joining a forum and they just enjoy the car as is, but man these cars seem to be having a lot of "first year" issues. One would hope that heading into cars built in the second production/ 2nd year the issues would be seeing real fixes, not just throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping something sticks. What's worse is the manufacturers seem to be bobbing and weaving on actually addressing major warranty claims - blaming it on yada yada yada.

They only have "a lot" of issues because most people are looking for potential issues here on the forum. If you look at most people tuning etc, this engine is hard to break. You have to really get a bad egg for shit like this to happen (referring to OP's issue).

Lemon Law, call a lawyer. Dealership is full of shit. It's still your car and they can't do any work without your authorization so hold out until they give in or demand that the car is taken to another dealership.
