Kudos to Subaru for charging a 7% markup. That's the best they've ever done!
My mind is still rather blown by this...

I'd say the FR-S is a better deal with a group buy discount, but at MSRP I think I might go Subie. Still have some questions about the handling difference though which is seeming to favour FR-S atm.

Sadly Freight and PDI adds almost another 3% since it's so much of the Americans.

I think it's all really reasonable though. Canada has a 6.1% higher import tax than the USA so their price there is pretty damn good.

And unfortunately Canada has higher insurance costs than the States when it comes to shipping cars which accounts for the higher Freight and PDI. Apparently it costs around $2500 to ship a vehicle to the easternmost provinces. So the rest of us have to help pay that cost.

I feel bad for some people that showed up in person to put money down thinking they'd be first.

I also feel bad for the people who've pre-ordered who won't get one this year...richmond subaru forecasts getting 4 or 5 for the YEAR..but they've taken 9 Deposits apparently....i hope they let these people know and not just string them along.
with a 3-car relationship with the dealer, looks like you will likely pay msrp. But for the others who have no relationship with the dealership....... 9 deposits and 5 cars for the year? Is it possible there might be a hefty "market adjustment" markup?

supply vs demand. its simple economics.

I used to feel that way, but I am slowly getting used to the mouthguard now. Prefer the Subie lights, there is a lot of chrome in the FRS headlight bracket. Need to see both IRL.

I ordered mine from Subaru Markham the salesperson said they would get 7 FOR THE YEAR(I'm 5th in line, put the deposit 3 weeks ago). My deposit was non-refundable and many criticized me for being "at the mercy of the dealership". But guess what im guaranteed MSRP plus fees(which I will gladly pay).

Price - 29295(I ordered the BRZ with Sports-Tech package and manual transmission)
Ontario Tire Tax - 29
Freight - 1595
Federal Air Conditioner Tax - 100
Admin Fee - 199
Registration Fee - 299
License fee - 94
Total After Taxes(13%) - 35720.43

****For the people who preordered the BRZ, and their deposit was REFUNDABLE, did the dealer say they will STRICTLY charge MSRP?****

My salesmen has guaranteed me in writing that my car will be MSRP. my deposit was refundable too. I don't believe my dealer practices markups, but i can imagine with this car, many dealers will try.

So in other words you are paying $500 over MSRP. Admin and registration = pure profit for the dealer.

Why would you "gladly pay" a dealer markup?
It is great that Subaru Canada decided not to shaft us but that dealership you pre ordered from did in fact shaft you. If you ask any neutral dealer they will tell you that a non refundable deposit is just a tool to lock you in with their above msrp price.

Have you even tried to call your salesman back and ask for the fees to be removed? If I were you I would see if that BoS you signed is actually legally binding. I was told that it is not the final BoS and is just seen as a form of semi official document proving that you have the pre order placed. I was also told that they cannot hold you to a pre order deposit unless you cause them a loss of a sale (you say there are others lined up behind you, shouldn't be a prob)

I'm not trying to make you feel bad, just trying to save you 500. Who is the salesman that you are dealing with over there? Maybe if they are afraid of bad PR we could help you pressure them into removing those fees. If the salesman is still reluctant then you can try the sales manager, after him you can try the owner.

Meh, he seems happy enough with it. Plus he's not exactly the only one to be paying those fees.

It's something to keep in mind though. Other people ARE paying over. That means YOU can make a valid case for paying that same amount UNDER msrp and the dealer is STILL making money.
