I don't know how laws are in that silly state, but in Texas you have TEN days to comply with the fix, not your court date which is always much farther ahead.

I think you misunderstood what you were told. Why would they allow you to keep the problem tint for literally months(almost 3 in your case), so you or anyone can just wait until the last day to get it done? What is to stop you from rescheduling the court date repeatedly? I went to court once for a ticket that I had managed to postpone to 16.5 months from the initial pullover!

It doesn't work like that, and for obvious reasons.
.
.
.
Googling doesn't seem to find an exact time frame, but I did find tons of info saying you get it fixed within the time frame and it gets dismissed by a court clerk(NOT in actual court) which strongly suggests that there is a time before your court date to do it. Just like Texas, and I've done this many times for inspection, registration, etc. $10 and no court appearance, ticket gone. Think about it, why would you be dealing with the clerk on your court date? You wouldn't. The clerk deal is a "do it before your court date" deal.

That tells me there are two dates given just like my state:

1) your chance to fix it and avoid the court appearance(10 days, 21 days, depends on state). If you comply, you never go to the actual court date on Oct 30 because it was dismissed.

and

2) the actual court date where you argue your case to have it dismissed.

You seem to have chosen the latter. And while you wait, you're still liable for the issue that caused your initial ticket. You're rolling the dice, you didn't fix it in time. Post a pic of the ticket for us, I'm sure it's written on there.

This is to the OP if you break your state tint laws then don't when the cops break one off in your @ss.

You broke the state tint laws live with it and do whatever is needed to resolve this ticket.

I remember living in Cali as a kid, mom got a ticket for tint and officer made her take it off after one stop so three months seems unlikely

The literal court order states a date it has to be fixed and submitted by. Not my fault, it is the court's process I am just complying to the time frame they gave me.

I get your point and it does not say 10 days, 21 days, etc on the ticket. I can try to upload them when I am home (I am currently traveling). I got a court order in the mail from Superior Court of Santa Clara county stating that I have by October 20th to deal with the citation and they gave me 3 different options in how I can deal with it. It is an option they gave me, not an option I am making up.

I also don't have to deal with a clerk physically. Options are 1) remove tint + pay $25. 2) contest it physically in court. 3) Pay $220 and case is closed (no removal of tint necessary).

Of course, I don't want to pay that much money so I am going to pay the $25 and remove it. I was more sharing my experience as I stated in my first post. A lot of people, not saying you, seem to over look what I wrote and just want to flame, even though I asked people not to. I appreciate you being diplomatic with your response and avoiding juvenile, childish responses like some people...

Lastly, Texas rules. One of my favorite states.

The scenario you propose actually seems more unlikely. In your scenario, criminals are apparently smart. Plus, tinting takes away opportunities. The fact they would have to TRY to see anything in my car would make them look obvious and would also attract more attention. You are a cunning devil's advocate, thanks for the input.

You invited the man into your life, he came in. You left the welcome-mat out, and he came in again. There is nobody to blame but yourself two months after the original ticket. Go for a ticket-trifecta! What sort of valuables do you leave in your car that you are willing to trust to mere window tint?

I say that we, as a car enthusiast community in CA, start a petition to repeal the state's tint laws. Idk how feasible this is, but its worth a shot. I'm sure there are many non-enthusiasts that would also support this effort.

Police are very well compensated, at least in California (60-120k / year), for what realistically requires very little education. In short, they know what they're getting in to.

With that said, does that mean they deserve to be shot at? Of course not, but it should not infringe upon someone's right to privacy while residing in one's own property. In fact, the individual in the car, when stopped by the police, is more at risk of bodily harm or death than the police officer (particularly if one happens to be male, or worse, a male minority).

tl;dr being a cop is pretty safe and well compensated and we shouldn't restrict innocuous rights because it makes police feel better.
AMEN!!!!

Tim, that is a great idea! Let me know if you want to try and get one going. I have a few friends who are attorneys so I can ask them how we go about something like that. I think it should be lowered from 70% (current) to 35% or something close to 35%. Here is an example of minimum tint % in surrounding states:

Oregon - Front Side Windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in.
Nevada - Front Side Windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in.
Arizona - Front Side Windows: Must allow more than 33% of light in.
Washington (just for the heck of it) - Front Side Windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in.

Meanwhile in California: Front Side Windows: Must allow more than 70% of light in.

lol that sucks. I was pulled over a couple of months ago. I have 35/20 tints all around except windshield.

Was it my tint? Was it my exhaust maybe? Am I finally being bit in the ass for mods?
Nope, I blipped 10mph over the limit going downhill.

Anyways, I think coupe tints are far more noticeable than on sedans. That could explain your bad luck.
