That's apples and oranges, who drives it is a much different thing than what drives it.

On a side note, I really thing that super capacitors are going to end up being the energy storage of choice, they've been making leaps and bounds in them. Not to mention they re-capture regenerative brake energy better, charge in no time, and with a range-extending generator you'll get asinine efficiency.

And this is the really interesting one:

The greatest part is performance cars will naturally gravitate towards one motor per wheel or axel, and getting a perfect 50/50 balance will be a cinch.

Entirely agreed. I think it's funny though how we're gravitating towards a >110 year old car design.

Are you recently involved in academia or R&D? Those seem to be the only people who know about super capacitors, aside from certain enthusiasts.

Any bets on who will sell a car with multiple motors (one for each wheel) first?

Edit: As to the apples and oranges, technology developments that are seen as impossible or silly sometimes become ubiquitous.

There's already small electric racing circuits, including drag racing, that are using multiple motors. As far as production, I know it's been in concept cars but not production models. I believe the Lit Motors electric gyro-stabilized motorcycle may have 2 motors for propulsion. I actually considered putting a deposit on one for commuting and considering how easily they could be trailer transported.

And I'm not in R&D/academia, I'm a 1LT in the Army and have a BS in Criminal Justice. But I'm a voracious reader and closeted nerd (although not that closeted being in the Signal Corps).

Edit: if you want to check out Lit motors, go here: http://litmotors.com I really hope they get off the ground, the videos of their prototypes are awesome. And I checked, they do have motors in both wheel hubs.
