it's butyl rubber. it's got a low melting point around, and it's tackier than gum on your good shoes. so yeah, if it's warm, it generally goes back together just as well has it was before.

the most common method involves using a flat blade screwdriver or a putty knife to pry the halves apart. if very little ends up on the screwdriver/putty knife, no. but if you end up with more butyl than screwdriver once the two halves are apart, then yes.

Can confirm this. I've opened mine up 4 times now, and never needed new sealant. Never needed to pry them apart, just some oven mitts and a little patience.

All I do when I pull the halves apart is once it's getting stringy between the two sides, I pass a razor blade through to cut them nicely and I guide the cut stringed out sections back into the groove. A little patience and pre-planning goes a long way in retaining a good seal.
