Thread specific about regional issue would be better placed in regional forum.

An article in DSport magazine a couple months ago mentioned that the Innovate SC is now CARB legal.

If theres a missing catalyst in CA its going to fail the test - visual failure. Underhood label will indicate number of cats and thats what the smog tech is going to be looking for. Any sign of welding throws up a big red flag as well. |

If the executive order specifically says Scion FRS, and its on a BRZ.... it will technically fail. This would depend on the tech, his knowledge of the car, and his or her willingness to take the risk that its not an undercover car. That's exactly the kind of thing the B.A.R. does to try and catch shops doing illegal, or improper smogs - send a BRZ through with an FRS EO. We all know the car is same/same, but to the B.A.R. two separate makes and models. |

If this is the EO for a part and that part is on a BRZ, most, and I have to say most because SOME will ignore it, but MOST smog stations would fail the vehicle. And being purely technical about it ...ALL should technically fail it. When it comes to executive orders everything must match - year, make, model, engine size, and if its listed engine family. We've failed many a car with an aftermarket catalyst that had an EO that matched year make model and engine size, but had the wrong engine family listed - so mostly right just wont do. The both the shop and techs licenses are on the line if its a BAR car

I cant speak for every shop, but here, as soon as my tech spots a EO sticker he notes the number and brings it to me. I look up the EO and verify it applies to that specific vehicle. And the part itself had best have the manufacturer and part number listed, as both are critical. If we have an EO and an unidentifiable part - it fails. If the car has many aftermarket parts with stickers all over the place, its coming off the rack and someone (me for a fee) or the customer is gonna have to come up with EO's for every piece - and even then the cost of the test is gonna go up

No penalties to the consumer....other than the car will fail the inspection and the part in question will have to be replaced with a legal replacement. The penalty would be if lets say the incorrect catalyst was welded on - and the correct catalyst was only available from the dealer...and it costs say $1000. In that case your out the $400 or so dollars for the wrong cat that ya put on....AND ya still have to buy and install the correct catalyst..... so your out $1400 to get the car through the test. And again...if your a smog station and the BAR runs a car through with an incorrect cat (or any other part for that matter) and the tech passes it...the tech and the shop are getting fined and losing part of their license potentially. |

Anyone knows if the Borla Catback and Perrin Non-Resonated are CARB legal? And what about the Koyo Radiator and A&N drop in filter? These are just some ideas for my first mods. Maybe going SC in the future, pretty sure vortech is CARB legal now.

Catbacks, radiators and air filters are legal as far as I know. There might be noise restrictions for the exhaust in certain counties/cities though.

Perrin's catback might be one of the quietest out there as far as I understand? Might be necessary to check the borla ones?

Just bumping this since I just found out that my CARB Pending Injen intake isn't actually CARB Pending.
AFAIK The only CARB Legal Intakes are: AEM TRD (FRS Only) K&N (2013 & 2014 ONLY) http://www.knfilters.com/search/appl...prod=69-8619TS It's not like it isn't possible to get a number for our car. It's pretty disappointing for such a large market we have such limited options, especially since Arizona, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington have all adapted California emission standards and all will now require a CARB E.O. number on parts.

Wild guess .. depending on how thorough tests are .. how do you guys think - can catless header + custom frontpipe with 2 cats slip through for less thorough checks, that simply will look up how much cats car should have without inquiring where exactly they are mounted?
Imho if it MAY slip through 85% cases, it's good enough. For those less lucky 15% there is option of bolting back stock one. I have no clue how really tests are performed and how thorough they are over in CA though, hence just an mad idea. But if it will work .. replacing just frontpipe should be easier then regular remounting of headers, no? For lulz. If catback is legal, so do probably this.
