The denial of warranty on your catalytic converter(s) should not surpriseyou. As many other people have mentioned the most likely reason these failed is due to the engine running lean. If they grant you warranty on the converter(s) that is admission that some condition in the exhaust pipeline before them caused the failure. Therefore, they admit that the stock engine at some point in time was not running correctly and caused the problem with the cats. This in turn means you have amuch stronger case to getting the engine replaced.

Stopped by a local subaru dealer while shopping. The one manual brz on the lot was all done up in useless cosmetic profit fluff so I wasn't interested. But while there the salesman made every attempt to convey that his guys buying them for racing and track events felt they were fantastic vehicles and they were the majority of his sales of the model.

At the scion dealer, saleman didn't know much about it other than that they sold well and looked fun.

Out of the two contrasting sales methods, i feel theres a bit of negligence in promoting like the former, but sticking owners when the piper wants to be paid for doing what the company marketing, dealership advertising and salesman testemonials have promoted as being the design intent of the car. Had the subaru dealer presentation i experienced been similar to that of the scion i would feel differently.

For the record, because there's trolls from Subie and Toyota/Scion lurking....

My car is BONE stock, I drive it one day a week 10 miles each way at the posted speed limit and never a hair more. It's a Garage Queen and is only taken out between the hours of 2-3PM. I also have an allergy to anything not OEM as does my car....

You know it is too bad that there are not any ambitious journalists looking for a good story about a ticking time bomb. A few phone calls to the rental agencies at Nürburgring, contact a few forum posters and find out what dealerships denied the claims, followup with said dealerships with inqueries. There might be a very interesting story to be written there. Maybe even a story that a young, abitious writer could get picked up by one of the many print and/or online Automotive magazines. Just an idea.

Story:

There was a member of this forum complaining about the local police harassing him. Going by just the information he posted on this forum, I found out where he lived, his name, a video on youtube of him doing "donuts" in the parking lot of a public park, the type of citation he received, where his case was heard, what he was convicted of, the amount of his fines and how many points he now has on his license. I also found out where he traded his car in because he could no longer afford insurance on the car. I know which member of this forum now owns that very car. All this took me about 1/2 hour of research.

I had no vested interest in his case other than curiosity. I have never used the information nor divulged any of this personal information but it is all easily accessible to anyone that wants or has the motivation to search.

Do you think Subaru was motivated to do a little research?

Be careful what you post on the internet.

Difference is, we've asked Subaru to determine the *cause* of the failure from day one. They won't. It's not like we're trying to hide something.

If a legitimate analysis is performed and we are determined to have caused the failure by an error on our end, then sure, we'll accept that.

Based on the FT86 Cup results where "CSG Mike" is listed followed by a bunch of lap times, I think it's safe to assume that the car was actually raced.

Timed events on RACE tracks are actually races (even if it's a time trial).

I appreciate what you are doing here, and agree a stock motor should hold up to the rigors of a time trial or 3, but I also think you are tilting at windmills.
