racing against the clock vs racing other cars can be exciting, if and only if the rules allow for innovation and outlandishness. case in point: Pikes Peak. the monster tajima sub 10 min drama of the past few years? awesome! the continued engineering of the RMR PM580? brilliant! every year will have drama with these 2 efforts trying to best each other.

now imagine if WRC went back to the Group B philosophy. every stage would be as exciting as a mini pikes peak. i can see how F1 and other forms of circuit racing should have more limits, but rally? dakar? those forms of motorsport should be as open as possible so that teams can come up with impressive machinery. how else can racing the clock be exciting?

I t was neither of those cars that were on the dyno, and there were multiple teams that didn't understand that to hot start the car a relay had to be reset that was not really available to the driver,

I'm still waiting back to hear if it is ok to put up the pictures, i'm certain they don't want anyone knowing the HP figure, but I can tell you that all the estimates you see thrown around, which I assume are predicted BHP are lower than the WHP...

I know unrestricted they put out 850-865hp. With the restrictor plate I think it drops that in half.

At least compared with drifting NASCAR still decides the winner based on er... winning, rather than a popularity contest...

It's a demanding sport. Drivers need a surprising amount of physical fitness. Clarkson, well, isn't exactly known for how fit he is.

They also wear special gear and have restraints and stuff when pulling 5g's. Not really comparable.

Martin Brundle on the forces a F1 driver needs to deal with:

Oh, and another mental exercise. A human head weighs around 10lbs. In a 5G turn, that means your head weighs 50lbs. But it's not 50lbs on your shoulders. It's 50lbs to the SIDE. So lay on your side on a flat platform, with your head over the edge. Then put 40lbs of stuff in a bag and hang it from your head. How long can your neck muscles keep your head up? And how often?
