Another possibility is additional key weld points to increase chassis rigidity. It's easier and cheaper to do from the factory than in the aftermarket. The Nismo Z and TRD Sports M Celica had this done as they were being assembled.

Hmmm we have this contradiction between what Subaru officials have been telling the press (no FI) and people claiming that good sources are saying yes FI.
I hope it's a higher power NA, but I guess there is good evidence pointing towards FI. FI would be simple to add power, while the NA engine would probably need a lot of changes given what we've heard so far, IMO. |

^The people saying FI is coming are stating claims w/ no evidence to back it. It's probably in reference to aftermarket FI. Subaru and Toyota have asserted to the press on multiple occasions that there is no intent for FI in the future of this car.

Zonda & Aston Martin sorta did the same thing claiming a "better" redesign is coming for the next Model years. But never really delivered any substance to it. As far as Scion goes..Jack Hollis already has claimed a new model to come out every year for their FR-S production line. Does that translate to better models in the future? No! but it does suggest it. Can we expect Subaru to follow suit? to keep ahead of FR-S/86 sales...more BRZ models are likely to appear in succession. But doesn't translate to more performance, unless the market demands it based on the first 2 years of sales which are projected to be BIG.

[u2b]rpJxL8ZDsZw[/u2b] Not true for the Veloster with a turbo version announced: [u2b]_laBNs_kclc[/u2b] Toyota corporate has trickled the "No FI" message down to the dealer sales rep level. There's evidence of this all over this forum. They could have left it ambiguous but it seems like both Toyota and Subaru are putting out effort to make sure the message comes across clear: [u2b]1Gy0jy1aeC0[/u2b]

But in regards to what they were trying to do... SoJ PR probably gave them a hand built prototype about 4 weeks before the Tokyo Auto Salon and said, hey, drop everything and make us something, *anything*, to put in the show. Actual and meaningful performance parts take 3-6 months to design, prototype, test, and then produce. Regards, Paul Hansen www.avoturboworld.com www.facebook.com/BRZSportsCarClub |

^Unlike those examples, turbocharging was never in this platform's design.

Plus a turbo would blur that line of separation with the Impreza STI successor. Might not be in Subaru's best interest from a marketing perspective.
And for the Toyota camp, there's been speculation of a higher end sports car (Supra successor). A turbo would steal some of its thunder. On a side note, Toyota already has the entry level FR-S and high end LFA. Just missing the Supra. Some can argue iQ is the entry level enthusiast car.
