It's the brakes.

How would it cut power? It certainly isn't kicking in the clutch or changing how the torque converter is working so it would have to retard the timing in the engine or close the throttle on you; which doesn't help if only one wheel is breaking traction and would put you worse off than you already are.

Any form of vehicle stability is made up primarily of brake application.

I guess according to wiki it'll slow the engine down (likely for our cars closing the throttle since it's electronic) until you regain control but that isn't the primary method of "fixing" the problem.

It's definitely slowing the engine down. I've got the accelerator depressed, but it isn't responding - the RPMs drop. If it applied the brakes, the RPMs would still climb as I have the gas pedal down.

It may be applying the brakes at the same time, but if it is, it's not doing so hard. I'd be able to detect it, and I'm not feeling any sort of mechanical braking.

From what I understand, it uses the EBD to brake at single corners to fight slip.

If the engine is directly connected to the wheels and the brakes are applied the engine speed (rpms) will drop regardless of throttle position.

Ever been in an underpowered car going up a hill? RPMs drop because the load on the engine is increased, same with applying the brakes or turning on the A/C.

If you've got an A/T this load may be dissipated in the torque converter not affecting the engine speed but still doesn't change the fact that traction control systems primarily rely on brake application rather than engine throttling and is the reason you are seeing the engine speed drop.

Edit: I see you do have an Auto, I would appreciate a test, next time you're slowing down in gear applying the brakes tell me if the engine speed drops.

Please refrain from encouraging this kind of behavior. The best driver in the world cannot brake individual wheels like the aids do. Not to mention he or she cannot do it as fast as a computer can to prevent a spin. The electronics systems are capable of this.

I was wondering what is the impact of all nannies on on fuel efficiency, vs,
Sport mode, vs,
VSC off.

I would guess with VSC off there is probably better fuel efficient since the system is not trying to preempt handling and therefore might be interfering with the power delivery to the wheels. This is my guess, does anyone know.

Of course the other side of the coin is that the driver would push the accel harder knowing vsc will take care of the rest, effectively using more fuel, but the wheels running only with what is 'stable'. But my question is more about the vsc system vs fuel efficiency and not driver behaviour. Thanks, as if there is a saving to be had, I will turn it off.

I would say in normal mode I feel sad.

In Sport mode I feel like I'm being teased, and probably more angry.

With trc off, I feel

I do not condone this behavior.
