it has been discussed for the past year, many times
perhaps if some of the members actually used the SEARCH function (similar to the one they used to find this forum) then we wouldnt have many many useless posts

please do remember, that just becasue it is the same gearbox casing, the experience from car to car isnt always

The author says 42mpg...most other reports say 29mpg. That and the "subaru transmission" error kinda cast doubt on this guy's research skills.

Anyone notice on Top Gear they tend to prefer automatics in the cars they test?

Imperial gallons != US gallons. Not quite that different but we've seen mid 30s for US gallons I believe, so 42 imp isn't too far off that..

until the EPA tests it we won't know for sure.. until then it's all guesswork.

I can't wait for one of the trio to test it. I think Clarkson will like it because he loves drifting around things, but he'll definitely say it needs more POWAAAAA.

Hammond, will probably love it, because he's small and he likes good handling cars.

May will probably just complain about how plain the interior is. Although, he'll probably like the understated styling.

I CANNOT WAIT for TG to come back on!!
Clarkson will drift it untill his neck snaps off.
Hammond would love it if it were badged as a Porsche, but handles like one.
May will probably complain about it's simplistic's.

But I am eager to see their review on their show!

Motortrend said it's the AY6 (same as the Camaro, IS250), not the AZ6, in their big article about the BRZ. (Edit - looks like I read the article wrongly

Same tranny as a Camaro? I find that a little hard to believe - why would they put a tranny that handles 300+ hp into a sub-200 hp car - waste of money for a "cheap" car.

Also the transmission feel may be an issue with this model - I have never driven a recent Camaro, but other muscle cars have trannies that require very high shifting effort. Hopefully that is not the case here.

So they could drop a 300hp engine in it? Lol.

The reviewer said, "the boot seems to be a complete afterthought." Poor word choice! They put some thought in making sure it fit 2 golf bags or track day hardware.

When I first saw the word Aisin in this thread, I just thought someone didn't know how to spell Asian

I still haven't seen either manufacturer even mention rear passengers. If they mention what goes behind the front seats, it's always talking about other stuff like wheels.

I think the rear seats were only made for insurance companies.

We have a dedicated thread to the transmission/gearbox. I can say for certain that the box is an Aisin sourced unit. The assumption is that it is the AZ6 since that is commonly used for sub 200ft-lb engines.

The AZ6 is also known for certain weakpoints and consistent problems across different cars from the MX-5/RX8 to the S15 and even the S2000. I'm leery that there will be problems.

It's a subcompact car with RWD. The back seats will be usable but not comfortable.

Unless we take what the insideline article says along with Tada-san:

Quote:
Tada-san tells us the FR-S's Aisin-built six-speed manual has headroom to handle more torque, but he won't reveal how much. Still, his conspicuous laugh tells us there's enough to accommodate turbocharging.
and it could be a AY6. Who knows at this point. I don't believe that I have read anything that confirmed it one way or another.
