Given Toyota's history of engine nomenclature, how about we dub this unknown engine 8FB6-GE as a working title...

I vote 3FB-GSE.

3rd gen FB, G performance design, S direct injection, E electronic control (Still...?)

I thought E was electronic fuel injection...in that case maybe they should start knocking the E off the end of their nomenclature...leaves a spot for an A without 4 letters in a row

Those all look like strange names, SUBARU would never stamp them with such codes. hahaha

BRZ? Boxer, Rear drive, Zenith?

I wonder if they mis-translated 'Apex' as 'Zenith'...

Toyota: FR-S = Front-Engine, Rear-Wheel, Sports
Subaru: BRZ = Boxer-Engine, Rear-Wheel, Zenith

Are these terms coined by the same marketing guru?

Yeah, the "BRA" might be a bit much, but "BRZ" is a lot like CRZ, and I don't think that is a positive comparison. People will say, "Breeze", too, which was an awful little Plymouth.

Good find and thanks for sharing. I'm personally not a big fan of BRZ and wish they used an actual name for the car. Oh well.
