Hmm they should give us an option to buy that as an alternative key then. That way you can keep it in your wallet and only use the real key fob for when you need the trunk opened or something.

Oh and on another note, how does toyota keyless entry work? Is it the same as BMW where you have to touch a certain part of the for handle?

How my IS works is, if the car detects my key in its certain range, I can be able to unlock my door by holding the door handles that have small black square buttons, and open the trunk by pressing a button hiding at the trunk. I don't really have to use my key at all, unless I want to make it screams by pressing "panic" on my key fob. LOL

With Toyota/Lexus's SmartKey all you have to do is to touch the door handle to unlock the door, or press a button hidden on the trunk lid to open the trunk. They do still provide a conventional key fob as a backup of course, but with the Smart Card there is no need for a real key fob at all unless you want to lock/unlock your glove box.

Oh cool that means that if we have that smart card we won't be screwed if we forget our keys cause no one would leave home without their wallet.

I'm gonna go see if Scions cars work the same way.

it's not a card, it's a key fob just like the one every car has now, that you put on your keychain. The car detects when it is near and allows you to unlock the doors and start the car without needing to take it out of your pocket. Using a key is going to seem like such a pain after owning this

edit... nvm I get it now. Imagine if they could get the same thing for my apartment... I wouldn't need to carry keys around at all anymore

I always try to push Start/Stop button, and hold door handle of my RX300 to start the car and unlock the door, respectively. I never learn. hahaha

I think some Japanese homes actually uses something like this for their locks.

On a side note Japan has also been using NFC one their phones to turn them into wallets. Can you imagine if we can use our phones to unlock our cars like that. Soon we won't even need keys.

Man I really hate keys cause of how they feel in my pants >_> it would be awesome if keys would just all get replaced with our phones or cards.

I hate keys also. I rather use a card or phone. If not, something less annoying than carrying keys.

It seems like the new RS TC had keyless entry and push to start. I have to admit, it is cool to see a Scion with some new tech, even if it's exclusive to only the RS. If anyone is interested heres the video

The guy did a complete walk around inside and out side of the car(he explains the key fob starting at 1:20), I think the FR-S should have pretty much the same kind of technology.

As much as I'm in to tech, I would still like a key to open my door if my car battery dies, or if it needs to be jump started. I do believe that someday we might use nfc to open our doors, but just like everything else in programming, codes/frequencies can be tampered with.

This. What ever happened to a simple key opening up your door and starting your car.

promoting laziness is the best way to make money, so creating a system where you dont have to reach into your pocket, take out your keys to approximately hip height to unlock your car, makes it "easier(lazier)" therefore makes more money, because DAMN i could strain a bicep using keys to open doors all day!

^ well it's also cause of you know the impending zombie apocalypse. You don't have time to reach in your pocket and find the right key. With keyless entry all you have to do is run like hell to your car and open the door. Technology at it's finest.

Man that fiesta commercial was hilarious. Didn't make me wanna buy a ford but taught me the importance of keyless entry.
