yup... sports car with auto tranny?

you will learn pretty fast. take the car to an empty parking lot. throw it into first gear and try to start it as many times as you can without stalling. once you get going break and then do it again. starting it will be the hardest part.

I learned how to drive stick at 14 on backroads, i'm 21 now. its not tiring, it can be annoying in traffic though especially when you are just new to it. my first car was a 93 RX7 with a triple plate (overkill) and about 550whp , i built it myself in auto class for 3 years in high school (sponsored build up). i sold that and bought an s2000 and turbo'ed it with the money. both MT's and both far from stock. 6mt is the way to go in the FRS/BRZ, its a sports car, nice short throws and an easy clutch, definitely faster than the slush box. it takes a day of driving around starting and stopping to get the hang of an MT. no need for lessons, you learn by doing it not having someone show you. get the MT and you'll never want an auto ever

First of all, congratulations on your new vehicle! Be careful with it and take care of it! Watch where you park, especially in high school parking lots. You'll literally be the center of attention at school now lol.

Secondly, an automatic transmission does not belong in a sports car such as this one. Sure you have paddle shifters and such but it still doesn't give you the full experience that this car was engineered and created for. The auto tranny will only dull the pure driving feel that the manual gives. However, if you don't give 2 hoots about driving experience, etc then by all means buy an automatic.

Just my 2 cents. Cheers!

i say go with a manual. when i was 18, my first car was a manual (WRX) and while it took me a while to get used to it, i think it was worth having. better milage, because you can go to a higher gear if you're on a long flat road (6th gear doing 40? what? do that in the mini, get about 50 mpg!), and it will make you more "in tune" with your vehicle. besides, it'll give you something to do with your right hand

Depends on what kind of driver you are, id say try both on this car by any means possible. Hell go to a Subaru dealership and test drive the BRZ.

I'm in the minority when i say this but i believe if you go manual or automatic in this car then you didn't make a bad choice at all.

Can you drive manual?
When I read the title I knew what I was walking into, another pissing contest between auto/manual, usually won by the manual drivers. From my personal experiance, I purchased an Auto and only feel a pang of regret when I read all the people hating on them. Then I remember its my car, and not theirs. I'm buying a car I plan to track and that will be my Manual car.

Get the car you can/want to drive. If you follow whats on the greater opinion on this forum is you'll get a manual. Not saying that you'd be dissapointed, but you should make the decision for yourself. You're the one driving your car not the forum members.

Just my two cents.

I'm not going to spell out the joke you just set yourself up for

And anyway, no matter the transmission, both hands belong on the wheel, except for shifting.

Rather be in debt earlier to get a good credit score then later when you have more responsibilities and cant afford a new vehicle. Also have a five year loan on your credit score is a requirement in some states, to purchase a house.

Now for the kid trying to decide on the transmission type I would go with a manual only because its a sports car and you have someone that can teach you how to drive. As just make sure you can financially afford 5-6 years of payments and not just one or two. Whatever your choice is I'm sure you wont regret it.

Good luck

And no, I cannot drive a manual as of yet. I'm still really thinking about it. If I do get a manual, I'll probably have to take lessons. My dad can teach me but we have no manual cars to practice or learn with.
This sound more like a fear of learning how to drive a manual transmission more than simple indecision. As someone who has driven nothing but manual transmission cars (and motorcycles) for 44 years, I can tell you that this car has the easiest to use clutch and transmission of almost any car I've ever owned. The drive by wire throttle has made learning to find the friction point of the clutch simple by eliminating any cable play or drag, and the hydraulic clutch is light and precise. Don't let apprehensiveness about being able to learn the manual drive your decision.

Anyway, even I, after all these years, still stall out occasionally.

Why should I have to get a different car just becuase I want Auto? If I want a car, I want a nice looking car. Get real people this is not a sports car..... manual does not make it a sport car, it simply is an awesome looking and fun car, you are not passing anybody in straights or in the turns in sports cars. Are you one of those that does not even have the car? insist on telling people about how the car does and does not work, best, not best . With nothing more than at most a test drive? I bet a few drivers with autos can wax more than a couple slapshotting manual jerk ur ass manual drivers.
What is the point in your posting is my now off topic question
point is,this car may be the first sports oriented vehicle
to LOSE value with a "slush" box in it! it's stiil early,of course, but
it's an even bet to be worth less over time with the "slush" in it!
get the manual, learn it,and never look back! just sayin'

Dude its a $27,000 car, when most of us sell it in 5-10 years its not going to be worth much anyways. Anyone buying this car expecting to get good money back after they drove it through hell and back is very stupid.
