Exactly, Aircraft have large turbos and a ton of turbo lag. The large turbo is because a lot of them rob air off of it to pressureize the cabin. Remember you only gas it once for a flight and then you stay at 50% power and up for hours. They engine is only turning around 2.5K rpm. The RPM may not change at all for the entire flight.

Some of the old round engines were supercharged.
