That 0-60 is the same amount of time Tesla used to design the exterior.

Serious investors are holding onto the stock out of pure speculation on market interest from small investors. What Azz was saying is that if the bubble bursts then the stock could plunge. That stock devaluation/loss may not phase the company or it could.

I think Musk is growing his business to beat to market the semitruck, battery, charging network and solar market, so that even if his competition creates some electric cars, his business is setup to explode when full electric adoption reaches the S-curve of critical mass.
Sure. Just 2 comments though... 1) it didn’t stop people buying real estate
And 2) that’s a risk every investor [should] looks at and decides which way he thinks it’ll go.
The market is pricing in his success hence the over valuation.

Anyway. Back to motoring... I think it’ll be interesting to see just where it goes and where musk/Tesla fall when electric becomes the most common car around.
The world needs such visionaries from time to time and love him or not... his vision is gigantic!

I'll never touch one with a ten foot pole. But I won't complain if I see one driving around.

Apparently it will start at $200K:

I mean, it's neat all, but for some reason most supercars don't really excite me all that much.

Says that in the very first post. Plus a $50K deposit if you want to be in the first 1,000. So it is a total of $250K.

I'm pretty sure the deposit is part of the $200k, like any other deposit. Otherwise it would be a fee

The deposit on the $200K standard car is $50K. If you want one of the first ones the deposit is $250K.

Sorry I wasn't clear. Hawk did a better job of stating it.

People complained that driving the GT-R or a Bugatti was sterile and skillelss, like driving a video game in beginner mode, but this (not the GT-R) seems to be closer to that. It's performance driving described in software and metered out to the driver depending on their requests form the 'throttle'. Will it be fun. Going fast is fun, so no doubt. Will it stir the soul? Doubt it. At least not in the same way driving a finely tuned 20th century Sportscar is. Still as more and more cars like this reach production, it's a taste people will acquire. Is it good or bad?

Personally I'm more about Toyota's approach with the GR-HV. Which seems like they're trying to improve the current driving experience with hybrid electric power. Not totally replace the mechanical drive line with electric motors. Although that pseudo manual gearbox remains an open question. Overall prices will drop faster than Tesla can imagine. That $200k price will last as long as it takes GM to produce the same performance for $50k. I guess all of this is a big "we'll see". Electric Sportscars have been a long time coming. Good or bad, they're here.
Exactly. It's a one trick pony. Different strokes for different folks, but not my thing.

Not likely to meet those specs nor be here near 2020. Tesla may not be around if Musk runs out of other people's money!
With the debt they keep adding, it just smells somewhat like an unintended Ponzi scheme.

Or a reinvestment scheme. They have revenue just not profit. They wouldn’t be the first company to be reinvesting their profits so early in their growth. Again, see Amazon’s history.

Bugatti is a status symbol first then a top speed touring hypercar. The Tesla roadster is 1/10th the price for equal to better performance. That is Musk’s angle. It is not trying to be as beautiful or luxurious. It’s not trying to be an equal in status symbol. It’s just trying to show that Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Dodge and Hennessy can all chase top speed, quarter mile and 0-60, but Tesla wants to show that they have the best platform. That’s all it is.
