I am in Aerospace - probably the industry that uses more acronyms than any other.
I often say in a meeting "We have reached EOOA".
Others say "What??"
I respond "Extreme Overuse Of Acronyms"

Here's a good one.
We have devices on the spacecraft that are now called "Travelling Wave Tube Amplifiers" or TWTAs. (tweet-A-s)

When I started in the Industry they were called "Travelling Wave Amplifer Tubes"
Can you see why they changed the order of the words?
Certain people were not happy with the old acronym.

Dont forget JAFO - "Just another fucking Observer"
And we had some racks where the acronym was "SCATS".
It took months to figure out why communication was so poor on that program.
It was because companies on each side of the program had that particular term blacklisted in the email SPAM filter so people were not receiving emails.

'I gotta get my car smogged, I don't know who to see about it, as I'm not sure it's legal.'

Well you gotta check with both CARB and BAR, please them first, before you can finalize with the DMV.

My workplace has a Fast Action Response Team.

"FART"

For spills and such.

I only wish I was joking.

I'm not even joking.

This is also the company who's head of HR tapes printout above the lunchroom sinks, admonishing us to "wash your own dishes" because "you're not children anymore" and if we don't, then "Chuck Norris will get you", complete with pictures of Chuck Norris.

The same company who's head of engineering will sprint through the department mumbling "thanks for your hard work" while he throws fun-size candy bars at our heads. This guy will run, breathless, up to workers who are deep in conversation, scribble frantically on a post-it note, then stick it to the clipboard they are holding. He's also the one who will hold a meeting to determine when to hold a meeting...

...I swear. It's worse than THE OFFICE.

LOL It was just a way for me to use GTFO in some context! I have seen at least 3 FART Teams in my years in EH&S (Shit even my job is an acronyms 95% of the time)

At two different companies, they tried "EPADS" - Employee Performance and Development System.

Until (at both companies) everyone started calling them "KNEEPads" as they were going in for their yearly, closed door, performance review with the functional manager.

It is obvious why they changed it to something else.

Here's one that still gets to me:
"FTW"
In my coming up days, FTW always meant "Fuck The World" and was usually attached to either counter-culture outlaws or some teenage melodramatic bullshit. But somewhere along the line "FTW" took a drastic turn and came to be known as "For The Win." So now, everytime I see FTW in reference to something happy/exciting, I always initially think, "Why is this person so angry over something positive?" before I ultimately realize my error.
