I'd say I'd fall into the tasteful mods category. All I'm looking to do to the car is change up the tails, headlights, add fogs, maybe a front lip, muffler delete, drop in filter, and lastly wheels. Then I'll be satisfied with my car....hopefully lol.
You will never satisfied with your car, trust me. When you change something, suddenly will pop up something you dont want and want to change/modified. Its never ending cycle, i know it because im stuck in this spiral. I started to change catback, then i dont like the plain trunk-added a spoiler, i replaced my worn primacy and realized i dont like stock wheels... etc.

I'm coming from a car that had a very small aftermarket presence. My nissan altima has 18" wheels, two 12" subs, 1k watt amp, nismo spoiler, nismo front lip, and also have the nismo sides that never got installed, k&n typhoon intake, and a cf diffuser.

Yeah spent quite a chunk of change on a car with no real potential. Now with the frs there is a whole suite of aftermarket accessories, but trust me if I had enough money to blow I'd probably go v8 swap and other high end modifications. I mostly want a nice looking car don't care about horse power or anything else just driving pleasure.

Is it rice if none of the mods are visible from outside the car? I haven't gone batshit crazy, but I've probably put a grand (I know - a drop in most people's bucket) in the car and absolutely none of it can be seen without opening something.

I'm too old to troll for p*&*#y. If I caught one she or my wife would kill me. Not the same way mind you, but dead is, still, dead.

Sorry to break it to you, but that splitter still looks really big. Because it is.

Are Volks rice on a street car? You're certainly not using it in a fashion that requires wheels that light. You guys only have them so you can know your car is "better" and looks better. Same thing with canards. Your kw V3s? Yeah, they're rice too. By you guys standards, any modification that isn't used to it's full extent on the street, and all mods "for looks". So your JDM headlights, your Toms tails, your foglights, your vinyl wrap. All rice. Since we can't know the intent of the owner(if they wanted canards for looks or if they are a track junkie) we can't pass judgement on if they are rice or functional. Get over yourselves.

You misunderstand. The issue isn't that they look cool but are not functional. The issue is that they look silly and are not functional.

Often people will post something silly like this and then, when people say it looks silly, they'll try to justify it by saying they need it for performance. When that happens, the mod still looks silly. But then we also know that person is a poser. It's perfectly alright if you want to make your car look silly. But if you're going to go with tacky, own it and don't try to make goofy excuses for why you need it.

The other mods you mentioned may or may not be silly and may or may not be functional. Right now we're just discussing canards, which are not functional and look silly. Don't get mad, though. Wouldn't you rather know why people are laughing at your car?

I'm.just gonna go out on a limb and say that canards are in fact functional. Maybe not all the time, maybe not the way you drive your car but to say they aren't functional is just plain ignorant.

These don't seem like the kind of guys who would put canards on a car just for looks

And I'm gonna say I don't believe it. So I'll continue to laugh at them on street cars until I see independent wind tunnel tests that prove they're useful in the same driving conditions in which they're being used.

Furthermore, I think these Nice or Rice threads are rather useful. A lot of people get caught up in the modding hype and do some really stupid shit to their cars without realizing how ridiculous it looks because they're only exposing themselves to positive attitudes about it and get caught up in the nonsense. Years ago I did something really stupid to a car that I thought looked cool until someone made an offhand comment that opened my eyes. Suddenly I realized that I only did it to look cool to other people, and that I had failed. These threads serve the same purpose.

People who already have stupid-looking mods on their cars will probably get defensive and double down. However, I'm hoping these threads throw some cold water on a few kids who are all hyped up ready to buy a bunch of garbage to bolt onto their cars and maybe point them in a different direction.

So someone said your car looked dumb so you changed it again so they'd think it was cool? That's even dumber than the first mod. Maybe if you did what you wanted and not others you wouldn't have this problem to start with

As I mentioned earlier, we can't know intent. Do they have it for looks? Do they have it to "be cool"? Do they have it to go faster at the track but choose to enjoy their car on the street too? What are they gonna do... take them off when they leave the track so you'll approve of their car? If they leave them on, you'll think it's dumb, if they take them off, then someone else will disapprove. If someone wants canards and doesn't put them on to avoid "people laughing at them" it's the exact same scenario as if they put them on to be cool. Either way it's for social acceptance
