Just thought I'd link this here as well:
In another thread PulsarBeerz posted a link to an article from a shop in Japan that has successfully swapped a complete FA24 into a 1st gen using a 17-20 ECU. Specifically, it's an early 1st gen ("Zenki") car that was swapped with a late 1st gen (17-20 AKA "Kouki") motor and ECU, then subsequently swapped to the FA24. They note that they did this latter step "by replacing and re-pulling the crank angle sensor wiring and several harnesses", so there could likely still be some additional changes needed to swap an FA24 motor into a later 1st gen car as well.
