I think it makes it look less like there's a door there so it appears to be a two door rather than four. Had they gone with a flush handle like the Tesla S they would have succeeded.

Toyota USA just inherited 4 good to great cars that fill gaps in their product lineup and inject excitement into their overall portfolio.
The iA (Mazda 2) - Is probably the best subcompact sedan in the U.S.
The iM - Replaces the Matrix that was a hit for Toyota who now desperately needs a 5 door hatch in its' lineup.
The FR-S - Is the ONLY lightweight 2+2 sports car on the market outside of the Lotus Evora, and is a hit with critics that goes well beyond what the Celica ever was.
Now the CH-R - Is the CUV that replaces the RAV-4 as it has moved upmarket in cost/size while becoming more boring and mainstream.
If I'm a U.S. Toyota exec or Dealer without Scion in-house , I'm drooling at the prospect of getting 4 excellent cars in one year. It wouldn't surprise me if the same Toyota people were pushing hard to kill Scion as a brand just to get their hands on these models.
I thought Scion sales were included with Toyota's yearly sales?

I viewed shutting down Scion as more of a financial decision. Less executives / human resources the better for Toyota.

They were externally. Internally Scion sales were credited to "Scion Division", under their own executive leadership (Bob Carter/Jack Hollis). Also, importantly Toyota dealers who wanted Scion products would have to choose to accept the additional costs of attaching a Scion studio to their lots. Now they do not. No additional investment required. For these certain parties, getting Scion's product portfolio for nothing will be a windfall.

Toyota C-HR coming to the U.S. next spring

Quote:
Toyota recently unveiled the stylish C-HR crossover at the Geneva Motor Show and the company has officially announced plans to offer the model in the United States.

Set to go on sale in the spring of 2017, the 2018 C-HR is being billed as the perfect vehicle for “yuccies" who are described as the "young urban creatives" who helped to inspire the model's design.

Since the production model won't arrive for another year, Toyota will showcase the C-HR concept at the New York Auto Show. It's a slightly odd decision but the company confirmed plans to introduce the production model later this year.

Toyota is keeping specifications under wraps but the Euro-spec model rides on the company's new TNGA platform and can be equipped with three different engines. The entry-level variant has a turbocharged 1.2-liter engine that produces 115 horsepower and can be connected to either a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. The model can also be equipped with a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter engine and a hybridized 1.8-liter engine that develops 122 hp.

It remains unclear which engines will be offered in the United States but full details will be released later this year.

2018 Toyota C-HR spied in U.S. guise

Quote:
Our spies have caught on camera an undisguised prototype of the 2018 Toyota C-HR US Spec.

Toyota introduced the production-ready C-HR in European specification last month at the Geneva Motor Show. Now, the subcompact crossover is getting ready for its trip to United States where it will be sold starting with next spring as a 2018 model year. The U.S.-bound C-HR was supposed to wear the Scion badge, but since Toyota is saying “scionara” to its youth-oriented brand, the tiny high-riding model will wear the logo with the three overlapping ellipses.

While the exterior and interior design will remain essentially the same, that won’t be the case with the engine. Europeans get to pick from a turbocharged 1.2-liter with 115 horsepower (85 kilowatts) and a hybridized, 122-hp 1.8-liter. Moreover, in select countries (excluding UK), Toyota will sell the C-HR with a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter.

As for the U.S. model, some are saying only a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter will be available and it will be exclusively hooked up to a continuously variable transmission. As standard, power will be channeled to the front axle, but those willing to pay more will be able to opt for an all-wheel-drive arrangement.

The Euro-spec C-HR is being assembled at Toyota’s factory in Turkey, but it’s not known at this point whether this facility will also be in charge of putting together the North American variant.

We'll have all the details about Toyota's answer to the Honda HR-V in United States in the following months.

CVT, CVT, CVT it's like they're afraid of drivers feeling connected with their cars.

I can understand it being an option for people who have disabilities but there are people who like manuals (SHOCKING) even more so manuals get better fuel economy. so why not give the option?

CVT and even newer autos offer better gas mileage than manuals now... But at least having the option would be nice (albeit costly for the manufacturer to test and certify)
