I don't do that anymore, because 50% cars from B go directly to 2, like the SUV in the picture does. And it's not that they cunningly change lanes in the last moment, fully aware of their surroundings. No, they just barge without looking, completely oblivious to the existence of the lane line. They will try to crush you, and THEY will honk at you. Just yesterday a GTI in front of me attempted A-to-2 and had to swerve back to 1 to avoid collision.

For a full picture, imagine that there are 40 cars in this picture, not six, traffic is heavy when I drive there.

I gave up trying A-to-2, maybe when I'll start doing it again when I decide I want a new car and I want someone to pay me better money for the old one from their insurance than a dealer would for trade-in.

Well now that is just one screwed up intersection from the get go. At first I was wondering how your car replacement plan would work and then realized that there are lines from B leading to 3. That would make 2 the proper lane for A. Anybody going from B to 2 has actually made an illegal lane change since they did it in an intersection and the lanes are clearly marked (at least per the law here where lane changes or passing are prohibited in an intersection).

The lane lines for B end halfway through the intersection on the left side but continue consistently on the right. Some people could read that as they can pick 2, and so can A. That is a messed up intersection from the get go.

I believe that the vehicle making the illegal lane change is blocking our view of lane lines on the left side of lane B. The last visible lane line is directly under the offending vehicle's left front tire.

They don't*. In the picture they are obscured by the SUV.

* of course, after each winter they will be partially worn off which makes the intersection even more interesting. But people ignore them even when they are new and shiny.

I thought that at first too, but it doesn't have a corresponding line farther up, and the line that is visible looks like it distinctly cuts off at the crossing lanes' line.

Unless the offending vehicle is covering another line with its bumper due to the angle (which is a possibility)..... we need more imagery.

Ahhh, there ya go. Still a messed up intersection, but not as bad as I thought if they go through and line it like that.

Here you are. This is facing west, the previous one was facing south.

By the way, google put up new imagery from the same vantage point I made the earlier picture from, and again you can't see the line because a car is making a lane change...

Not really sure if that lane change is illegal though. Dotted white line = lane changes allowed no?

Changing lanes without turn signal* and changing lanes when there is a car there which has to swerve to avoid you is illegal anyway.

*this is VA, so technically changing lanes or turning without turn signal is automatically reckless driving, punishable with up to $2.5k fine and up to 1 yr in jail and plenty of demerit points...
