We took our new FR-S to the track today. It was pretty hot most of the day, but we wound up with some decent times.
Here is the best of the night with our FR-S full interior full vehicle weight (including spare/jack) With a 10-15mph headwind and a humid 84*F, Car # 592; Here is the best of the night with minor weight reduction (spare & jack removed, rear seats removed) & intake filter removed with a 10-15 mph headwind and a humid 80*F Car #592; Both of these were with Jason (My shop manager) at the wheel. My best for the night was a 15.10. All in all I am pleased and unsurprised by these numbers - they are exactly what we expected from the dyno and articles already published. |

For new cars I utilize a home-brew method. I Start off through the gears accelerating easy to about 2500 and then shifting. I do this 4 or 5 times, Then I repeat but I start bringing up to 3000, then 4000, then 5000 etc. All deceleration is accompanied by rev matching downshifts. Once you have worked it up to 7000, it is just Lots of WOT and never hold an rpm for long. I do follow the 4000 limit when cruising however. I also let he warm up before driving. People do a lot more damage with crank and go and shoddy maintenance than by driving hard. On pure race engines you often have no choice but to violate "reccomended" procedures. So you drive the piss out of it and the rings seat in no time. We'll change the oil and re-dyno soon. |
