Great to have so many options. What sort of weight penalty in rotational mass does the 355mm radical kit entail?

Hey Jeff, I printed out the template for the 9660s and checked them with my Apex wheels. The first is a set of ARC-8s (17x9, ET 35) and the second set is EC-7Rs (17x9, ET35). The ARC-8s barely clear, with maybe 2mm of space. Unfortunately the EC-7Rs do not clear.

As displayed above (thank you Pat!), our 355mm kits still allow you to squeeze them inside some 17" wheels and lots of 18" wheels (including the OEM 18's). You get a huge thermal increase, without actually adding any unsprung weight, and you can run lightweight wheels and tires. Win, win, win. Thanks so much for doing that Pat! Our minimum clearance is 2mm, so I'm glad the Arc-8s fit. Cramming any 355mm disc kit into a 17" is always a huge challenge. The CP9660 Radi-CAL is so compact however, that it fits more often than any other six piston caliper option on the market. I am going to send our templates off to APEX to have them verify fitment on our other kits as well. As an FYI, Essex is an authorized APEX wheel dealer, so if anyone is looking for a set with their brake kit, we can help you out. Thanks! |

Great info Jritt, thanks! A nice set of lightweight wheels should easily offset the slight increase in rotor weight over stock. Something to think about.
Will the Radical be available in other finishes or just the anodized black? Thanks |

Looks like it will be possible to save 10lb per front corner with just the new Aluminium spindle and the lightweight 2 piece rotor… nice!

We have found that anodizing is by far the most durable, best option. We have people flat-out assaulting them for years on end without messing up the anodized finish. They don't change colors like paint, and the finish doesn't melt if you get a little brake fluid on them (although you still have to be careful with the logo). The gray tends to match a wide range of vehicle colors very nicely, so you can think of them like a neutral paint in the main areas of a house. Anodized gray is our 'Relaxed Khaki'.

We do have a rear Radi-CAL Kit (CP9451/340mm). You could technically run it with our CP8350 front kit, but we weren't expecting many people to go that route. We don't have any plans at this time to do an 8350 rear kit. The problem with the rear is that you need a disc with an ID large enough to accommodate the parking brake. Otherwise, you must eliminate the parking brake. You can see it on the car below. Seeing as we have seven kits for the new car already, it's unlikely that we'll create any more kits for it. In all honesty, the rear is definitely more of a 'nice to have' than a necessity. A team of Toyota engineers from their Arizona proving grounds dominated their endurance racing class for years in their Gen.1 86 equipped with only our front CP8350/299mm system. It is an awesome setup and has been proven many, many times over around the world.

That is helpful info (as to what works). I actually quit a Facebook group because the Administrator would not let up on harassing me about why I wanted something other than the stock 2022 BRZ slider brakes. He said racers were using them front and rear... That people win with the sliders on the rear or even the rear and front is great, but Brembo, Wilwood and others offer full-car BBK's and in 2017 BRZ started offering Brembo BBK's for some stupid reason! While I'm just doing track days I'm an ex-SCCA racer and Solo racer. The BRZ is replacing a 2,900 pound STI with 470 HP. I have the 355mm StopTech BBK on the front and am using Girodisc rotors on the rear of it. Cooling ducts and DTC 70's all around. I run WGI frequently and do ST2 lap times, and that's with a non-aerodynamic hatch. I use my brakes as if I'm racing. I could show you a picture of my glowing front rotor... My point is I don't want heavy iron brakes on my BRZ no matter how well they function as brakes. I'm spending $1000 more than I must to have light, 17" racing wheels. I'm pretty frustrated, as I can't even find BBK's yet where manufacturers are saying they have an adapter that works on the new aluminum front knuckle. I'm also willing to ditch the emergency brake in the rear. |
