Wolfsfang, you say it's an old engine, and I guess to young guys it is. Keep it mind the motor, even being 15 years old, puts down better stock numbers than a fa20, hits 200whp much easier than the fa20, has hit 280whp NA (has a fa20 even hit 250 yet?) and gets too 300 and 400 on much less boost than the fa20.
You see an old engine. I see a superior engine. Even better, if you pop one, you'll find another for stuff all.

A friend who is "in the know" with Toyota said that the 3S-GE or some variant of it was in the original plan for the 86. But that idea got shot down due it driving cost up into 370Z territory, hence, the Subaru collab.
I also vaguely remember reading Yamaha being part of engine development before or around 2011 which apparently didn't happen.

I am curious as how the engine swap effects handling and weight distribution. If only the altezza came with a better transmission.

The FA20 is the better engine, mostly because they're actually allowed to use it. It also happens to have higher specific output since it doesn't have a fat chunk of dinosaur iron sitting there. You don't just "rework" an old engine for a new car, there's no point to spending the R&D on an engine that only sees limited use long after production has stopped. You do exactly what everyone does, develop a brand new engine using everything you've learned and new manufacturing technology, because that actually makes sense. |

He deals directly with Japanese companies and his paid profession is to work with accurate, factual data. He's given me inside information on business ops of a few recognizable Japanese companies that have a hand in this car and the info checked out. His circle includes people tied to Toyota Corporate and 86 chief engineer. He doesn't work with the media and has nothing to gain in misinforming me. I don't want to affect his business relations so keeping him anonymous.

Go figure... Back on BEAMS topic, how much do these weigh? And is there a suitable bell housing to match up with an R154?
