Welcome.

Only as strong as the manufacturer makes them, much like any other engine. Of course they have their more common problems than some other layouts, but EVERY engine type/layout has it's own downsides.

I currently have a G37S Coupe, Is it worth it to trade it for FT-86?

I have no clue about the quality of these boxer engines, Is there any failure in boxer engine? are they strong?
Welcome to the forum.

as for G37S vs FT86. IDK we only know few specs about this car. We haven't even seen the final ver of car yet. When Toyota actually show the final ver this yr w full spec, & test drive yourself and decide which is better... but as for now you can think, G37 has nice hp & tq, but it heavy. FT86 it's lightweight and low center gravity, but don't have much hp/tq as G37.

For boxer engine common failure/weakness is crank bearing. Other than that, I don't hear much. Just search around in Engine thread, I'm pretty sure we had some kind of discussion bout that.

No real info about it AFAIK down here, we definitely haven't got anything other than what we know about the other markets the FT86 will be sold to. Though we are 99.99999% sure it will be sold as a Toyota and not a Scion here!
Fingers crossed she wears the toyboy badge
Hmm i'l just have to be patient for now.. Lets hope my Esky makes the wait for the big upgrade!

Yeah, that's why I said we are so sure of it... Down here at least. The chance that Toyota brings the Scion badge down here just for the sake of selling the FT-86 under it is ridiculous, and, as far as I know, they have no intentions of bringing it down here for other reasons.

I'm happy with that.

Thanks for replay,

Lets assume that the 2.0L is the engine thats going to be in FT-86,
Is that engine friendly mods? I heard that this engine is used in Subaru WRX (correct me if im wrong), I mean will we see any fat gains after bolts on?.

I tried to search but i got nothing

Im asking this question because Im really into buying a light weight car..but if HP was not that high and the G37 can still beat it even with bolts on, then ima just stick with G37..

So in short, FT-86 full bolts on VS G37 coupe Full bolts, who will get the CUP?

Supposedly the car is gonna be around 260bhp, and at 2600-2700lbs that's gonna be a very decent start for a stock vehicle, and thats again on a supposedly turbo vehicle, and turbo cars are easy to mod and make power sence you can basically just change exhaust and intake and make substantial gains, i know these are two totally diff engines, but look at the 2jz, stock at 315bhp, by doing exhaust intake and a boost controller you can easily be almost 400whp, now given that this will be a 4 cyclinder, and probably a liter off of that on displacement, it should still see very good gains on that engine, just with the suggested bolt ons, and we arnt even talking upgrading the fuel system and turbo, so I'm thinking it's gonna be a easy to make power off this engine, given the block can hold up, damn i wish they'd drop some engine specs already

@ WhatIs86For, the FT-86 boxer is part of the new FB series, FB I think is the designation. Can't help you answer your question on the boltons. If you're at all interested in an automatic gearbox you might want to wait and see. The 86 is entry level, so it's probably not going to be as nice as the G37. Welcome!

Welcome -TokenSX-
Very nice S13 hatch.

Hey everyone! Just signed up. Anxiously awaiting confirm details of the ft86!
Currently drive an integra type r. In the process of putting a custom turbo kit on.

Hope this car lives up to the hype!
