Yeah there is an official clarification in the Appendix of the rulebook specific to the WRX debate some years ago and I believe led to the overall clarification of port/factory vs. dealer installed items.

Quote:
SUBARU IMPREZA WRX OPTIONS
The following port-installed options on the Subaru Impreza WRX, are listed when installed on the vehicle’s window sticker and pending evidence to the contrary are considered compliant: carbon fiber trim, turbo boost gauge, titanium shift knob, short throw shifter, rear diff protector, spoilers, and arm rest extension.
I suppose the rear diffuser could be construed as legal then on the BRZ (not the FR-S) since it's specified at time of order and port-installed.

You'd have to read the rules to be sure, but I suspect that the Five-Axis lip spoiler is an aftermarket item. I just tried to build a Scion on the website and there is no option to add the Five-Axis kit.

You wouldn't be _forced_ to remove it, you'd just have to run in whatever class the mod puts you in. Again, you'd have to read the rules to know.

I just read the track brake pad thread. What brake pads does everyone use for autox? I have the stop tech pads for now.

I just installed a set of Project MU HC+800 pads that I'll be running this autocross season. So far they seem to have good cold bite and are pretty quiet on the street. I also plan to attend a track day or two so I was in need of an all purpose street/autox/entry level track pad.

I'm on Hawk HP+ this season. Raced last season on stock pads, including a few full track days. So far, just with street driving, there's been a huge improvement. Not to mention my change in pads came with Goodridge lines and Motul RBF600 fluid. Also a big contributor.

Just bedded in some HC+ 800 pads, they seem to bite well and will have a fuller opinion of them in a few weeks when I get to track test them. For the price they seemed like a great deal.

When I drove Andrew's car, I know he was running the stock pads and I had no issues stopping. I'll figure out more as I eventually set up my car, but I don't think you need much brake in this car for autocross. It's not like the car gains a ton of speed on the straight sections and it's not like the car needs to be woahed down to get it to turn. If you have too much brake pad/brake bite, you could be doing yourself a disservice by inadvertantly over-braking and possibly having too much bite making it harder to modulate.

In the STi I had the HP+ and loved how strong they would brake, but I was often overbraking for corners and was losing too much speed when just needing a slight brush of the brakes. This was some great feedback I received from Sam Strano, and we swapped them for some Ferrodo 2500's. The same amount of ultimate braking without the massive bite, which made it easier to play with under trail braking and needing to scrub just a touch of speed without doing too much.

I guess the whole point here is to think about what you need to make the car better/faster and not just throw on parts because you can. Not that pads are expensive, but the money could be used for parts that will do more for you than pads.

I had the same experience, starting with AX6. GREAT bite but too much for autocross. Switched to DS2500 and I love them. Lots of bite if you want to push hard but very modulatable (if that's a word?)

I agree, I used the DS2500 pads front and back last year for a couple of track days and a full autocross season. I really like their strong bite without being noisy or tempermental to heat or cold. They are good cold, but get better when hot (more grippy) and great modulatable (used twice, now officially a word) feel. While I don't drive my car everyday, they are great for everyday-type of driving. They look like they hold up well too. They do make some brake dust, but few pads don't, it washes right off.
