Same! Great first time and got to take things relatively relaxed, at a nice pace to start learning the road. Didn't think we'd wind up passing a huge black cow on the side of the road, lol. Definitely don't get those in the Santa Cruz mountains where I normally drive .
Mines Rd. is fairly interesting compared to where I normally drive for fun. It's a bit rougher with more dips, gravel, and larger rocks to watch out for. There's also the narrow, single-lane mid-section that @PMok mentioned to me before we started. In the morning at the time we drove, heading toward The Junction the sun wasn't quite directly in my line of sight, but it it was toward the top of my windshield, and the terrain is so unlike the Santa Cruz mountains in that there aren't trees to give you shade/block the glare from the sun. Definitely something worth considering, though even in the SC mountains in the mornings you have corners that have rays of sunlight poking through that can almost blind you right in that instant as you pass through. I can understand why everybody enjoys driving it, and it really feels so remote and possibly much more technically complex. It's tricky, yet satisfying. Today wasn't necessarily the most fun, just since I needed to spend most of my focus on learning the road and watching for braking points and blind corners that I didn't know by sight or feel. Had a good time though, and glad to get to experience another road that proves this car is fast and powerful as a momentum car in its own right, which is something I've struggled with trying to defend this week specifically to power car enthusiasts. Anyway, enough with the rant-y review.

Looked like a pretty good day for a drive! Quite the selection of cars that happened to be there too: some 86s (ofcourse!) an STI, couple WRX and even couple of Focus STs! What's that one that everybody is gathered around at? Looks like a Jetta with a super aggro splitter? Planned on hitting the foothills either early Sat or Sun but was stuck struggling to install track pads and rotors on the RS over the weekend getting ready for T-hill West. The front brembos were a breeze, but the rears have these calipers that require you to both press AND turn the piston to depress them. I pretty much spent most Sat afternoon cursing at it with needle nose pliers and finally gave up. Went to the autoparts store and bought a tool specifically for it for $30 and it took 20mins... |

Hah, that's not a splitter on the Jetta, just my side view mirror.
That was one of the previous/current owners of The Junction who was chatting with the WRX/Focus group.

Saturday plans... nice easy drive with coffee, breakfast, then a tasty beer. Wife's out of town so I have a feeling I'll be driving around all day
Will probably try to leave Starbucks around 7:30 or so if anyone wants to join. |

Long time lurker on here. Are these drives restricted to frs/BRZ only? always looking for folks who share the same drive addiction.

I'm done for a drive on 9 or the surrounding area. Mines is too bumpy and narrow for me on some parts.

I'm not set on the route above, just like driving around the hills and the coast. I've been taking it relatively slow in some parts... cyclists without bike lanes sketch me out. I'll shoot to get to Starbucks on Los Gatos Blvd at 7:15 and leave by 7:30 tomorrow. |

Drove Pinehurst, Redwood, and Palomares today. Palomares was getting it's trees trimmed in 3 different spots, so there were areas that went down to one lane. Kinda interrupted the flow of the road having to stop/slow down several times, but what can you do.
On the way back up Palomares, I came upon a super old classic car with big flared wheel arches and in front of it was a minivan with it's rear open, and a huge professional camera aimed at the car. Looks like they were shooting a driving scene for a movie. I realized I just zoomed up on them and ruined their shot. Haha, whoops. The car looked something like this, has the actual "classic" license plates, and smelled like absolute shit.

Sat 11/4/2018 - DRIVE Alices to the Coast
Hey guys, sharing a Drive planned by Kim from the South Bay 86 group tomorrow...
If I wake up early enough I may even show up before 8 and do a run or 2 down 84 while the roads are clear, then join up with the main group for breakfast. Quote:
