Discussion about replacing the whole board starts around page 10 or 11 of this:

Yeah, just trying to see what's more worth while. Want to be able to keep the OS updated as well. Don't think the mtcb units are going to run too well with newer versions.

Cool, I'll probably wind up getting similar. I was looking at some of the Dasaita's but none of theirs have knobs or real buttons and I really f-ing can't stand that.

Yeah I think that's what shifted me to this unit. Has the basic necessary buttons and a volume knob.

I've always loved pioneer HU I've always found they have great sound. Too bad their Android auto units are so pricey. You really have to shell out big money just for a capacitive touch screen.

I don't have long term experience but I did just drive around 1000 miles using it regularly. Here's the unit I purchased (upgraded to 6.0 firmware from their site)

https://www.amazon.com/Multifunction...ds=joying&th=1

The head unit fits, but you'll may need to modify whatever you use to fill the gaps ont he left and right if you choose this model. I used one of the standard dash kits but had to shave down them a bit. It's a VERY tight fit and slightly too tall but I think it looks ok. I'll see if I can get some pictures later. I wanted the entirely flat front look, but I know many prefer buttons.

I've been extremely happy with the functionality of the unit.

Runs torque perfectly with a cheap OBD adapter off amazon. Do not buy an adapter with more than a 4 digit pin. It will not work due to the hack job they've done on the BT stack. With the cheap ones it works fine. It pairs up quickly and worked perfectly on my 600 mile trip recently.

Delicious tuning app also works and pairs just fine.

WAZE works well but I've had some intermittent GPS issues recently. One nice thing about Joying is they seem to be really on top of bugs and release firmware regularly. The newest release says something about fixing GPS. It works but sometimes has a hard time getting a lock. I'm hoping the new firmware fixes it.

Pairing with my phone has worked fine for BT music and calls. No issues there.

I used the stock 1/4" jack for aux input and used that on the trip as well without issues. I did notice some slight alternator wine that I think may be related specifically to the AUX input that I haven't taken the time to track down yet. It's not loud but you'll hear it at slower speeds. It could be the cheap un-shielded adapters I bought from joying to make all the stock stuff work but that's all guesswork right now.

I'm using the stock backup camera and a 5V converter. It's fast enough for my needs (probably about 2 seconds to pop up) and the quality is ok, but not great. I'd say the stock camera was never wonderful but through the joying it's slightly worse. It works for what it needs to do and I didn't have to run another camera.

I'm using their DVR front cam as well. I haven't tested it extensively and I needed to email them to get an updated APP to make it work. It seems to be working fine. I'll be going through the footage soon.

I hope that helps. Over all it's doing exactly what I want it to do. Run torque, waze, delicious tuning app, and giving me a way to play music. It has started up every time without any issues and "just worked" the entire trip. Waze did crash a couple of times, but I have it do that on my expensive Samsung phones as well. If you have any additional questions hit me up and I'll try to help.

Honestly the stock system to me sounds like absolute garbage anyway. I'd say it sounds better with the Joying. I do have that slight whine with the AUX input setup that I didn't notice with bluetooth. It's very slight but I'm pretty sensitive to sounds. The girlfriend didn't even notice. Bluetooth audio quality isn't great, so I'm not sure if they're supporting all the latest codecs there or not, but honestly BT RARELY sounds good anyway. The best sound seems to come from local streaming (I use a WIFI hotspot) or locally stored on a USB or SD card. I really need to upgrade my entire system to give it a real review there so I can test the RCA outputs. If you're an audiophile I'd say this is probably not the best option but sound is so subjective. If you're happy with the stock sound system, I don't think this will disappoint you? Hard question to answer.

I saw that same unit but the hizpo brand version. All these units are identical anyway. I myself have had the older KitKat unit running custom lollipop OS. Audio wasn't that good until I ran the custom ROM with MTC sound app. I do hear that these new units sound pretty good. Should get my nougat powered unit next week. I'll see how that runs and sounds.

Little update. Received new hizpo 7.1.2 nougat unit today. Had to wire the harness, used solder and shrink wrap for a clean install. Need to Dremel out the brackets to get the unit pushed back. Also got the side adapters for the holes, but looks like I'll need to get creative with those. As far as the unit itself, it's fast and runs extremely smooth. The built in mic works really good. I'll try to post up pics later when I wrap it up.
