^ Exactly. You have to really push to get the most out of the car. The downside is that since you'll be pushing the car and yourself a lot, there's always going to be that chance of a mistake and that mistake can cost you, depending on the course and your mistake.

The plus side is what that all does to your learning curve. Learning to beat the hell out of this car and drive it, even with such a small amount of power, will make you a better driver

Granted, I am still waiting on my 86, but every chassis can be set up to drift.
High performance 245 40 17s in the front - all season 195 55 15s in the back, dial in the coils and it will go smooth as butter. I am sure of that.
Can't wait to try it.

I probably drifted the most in my e30 325i, which is comparable to the BRZ in weight and torque (has even less power though).
That thing was a ball using the same approach. Granted, didn't put out shit for smoke, but it was a pleasure to fuck around with.

Also, I am a firm believer that one can learn a lot about drifting while driving a FWD car.
Yeah, you read that right. All about entry, not exit, which is way more important anyway.

245s up front are going to cause heaps of rub at full lock. These cars don't have jack shit for front fender clearance. 195 width 15s are too small in my opinion for the rear. No real contact patch there or grip. 205 or 215s on 17" wheels is perfect for this car. If you find that to be a bit too grippy, you can increase tire pressure or stiffen the rear more.

Once you find a good, balanced setup, the car is easy to drift. Up until that point though, it's a bit snappy and funky. I run -1.5 camber on 215/45r17s with anywhere between 35-50psi cold (depending on the course) and have no issues doing 70+mph entries and courses.

And you learn more about drifting by drifting.

Care to elaborate on the rub topic?
Based on the wheel and tire thread I was under the impression that 245s fit fine.
Balls.

At lower ride height, the 245 tire will most likely rub at full lock under load. Not in every case, but there's a good chance. I was rubbing with 215/45s when I first lowered the car. If you have wider front fenders or LCAs and are able to move the wheels outward (increase track width) you can eliminate that issue.

I'm using Todoroki 30mm front fenders now with aftermarket tie rods for increased steering angle. I'll have the clearance up front to keep from rubbing with all of the extra space.

You have to remember that we make up like 5% of the total forum. Lol
All these people who are fitting wheels and saying they don't rub aren't driving it in the same manner we are. What might work for them, might not work for us and visa versa.

What are your thoughts on 17x9s et 28 with 245 40 17?
I'm not gonna go ueber slammed. Maybe 1.5 tops.

I run 17x9 +20 up front now on stock fenders with -3 camber. I'm lowered like 3" or so. No rubbing here. Height wise, our tire/wheel setup is similar. You have more tire width though but, you're higher up. I imagine you would be fine. I would personally do a 235/40 though. 245 is so much for a 160whp car for drifting.

To be honest, I think I'll just use the 245 all around for grip.
For sliding around I'll use the stockers in the back and try the 195s I mentioned.
Had great luck with that size in the past and they are cheap - as - fuck.

I've tried quite a few different tyre sizes on the back. The lower the profile the better. Less sidewall means less lateral grip. So they'll let go sooner. 205/40/17 i like the best. I also use 205/45/16, they are almost as good. 205/50/15 is a bit wallowy, but had a handful of cheap tyres in that size so ran them. 205/55/16 I had 8 of and they are shit house. Way too much profile. 195/55/15 will be just as shit.

245 on the front is way too much. It just isnt needed. I run a 225/40/18 on the street and that has yet to let me down, or make me feel like I need a wider tyre.

I'm a huge fan of running the same tyre all around while drifting this car. 205/40/17, or 205/45/16. Same compound too. I've run semis on the front and that combined with the piss weak lock, the front will dig in if you go beyond lock, and spin. Less of a problem when its the same compound all around.

Listen to this guy. Stick to 205/215 tyres. Adjust pressures accordingly. I run fronts at 30psi cold on a wet day, 25psi cold on a warm / dry day. Rears I run 55psi cold on a warm dry day. back down to 40psi if its wet.

Even when I'm turbo I'll run 225/40/18 all around. No need to go more than that IMO.

If you want to put super skinnys on the back, try 175/50/15. I used them for lols for a few weeks. It will just feint in under braking (assuming you have thhe abs fuse pulled to disable all the aids) it car peels them easy. But almost like on ice when its sideways. Just hangs out and stays out. No drive at all. Good for lols, but you get sick of it and want more grip after awhile.

Must just be me going big or going home lol. Im running a 235/40/19 on a 19x10 +29 on the front and use 205-40-17 and 215-40-17's out back. Until my new tires get here then ill be running a 275/30/19 up front
Last year i ran a 19x8.5 with the 235/40/19 with very little rub

Drifting, unlike circuit, has no right way. Some guys of equal ability like vastly different setups. Its more about trying things yourself, and determining what you like.

I don't like a lot of front camber for example. I feel it gives less front grip while sliding, at the sacrafice of initial turn in. But I only drew that conclusion after trying a few different settings.

Wannabe drifters overthink everything; we've all been guilty of it. Just go do skids with what youve got.

Agreed, but when I buy a new car and decide on what mods to get, I need to do a little research and "overthinking". Don't wanna buy the wrong stuff after all.
