Think a large amount of people that buy the tuned kit believed that since it's labeled as delicious tuning that it's going to give them the most up to date delicious tune when in reality it was something that was just pushed through. I never ran the KW basemap so I'm clueless to how bad it is/isn't.

On a lighter note, I'm going to full 3" exhaust on this kit. JDL 3" OP and FP. Tomei 80 CBE. If the measurements Zach sent to JDL prove their V3 EL will work then that will be going on as well. Can't wait to see this kit properly tuned on a full 3" exhaust.

Fact is, these things are nearly always done on a contract to contract basis. Do you see innovate giving updated factory tunes all the time? No, but Bill made that tune, and pushes his own tunes with recurring updates. It appears to me that in both scenarios, the manufacture of the kit gets one tune to ship out every kit with. If the kit was rushed to market before the tune was completely perfect, and clearly improvements have been made, that's on the manufacturer. This reminds me of the road and track article for the nameless header. They made it look terrible, when in reality they asked nameless for the impossible: to come up with a random mix between their street and race prototype along with a random guess of an Ecutek calibration, wouldn't get it on the dyno to get it completely dialed in, and then published an article on how disappointing it was.

There are always two sides to a coin.

Let me spell it out for you guys

California Air Research Board

The manufactures can't sell an updated tune without than getting it re-certified.

Kraftwerks Supercharger Owners Thread

Yes, KW cannot simply send out an updated factory tune because it has been baselined for CARB purposes. Since KW started the CARB process a lot later than their primary competition for this kit, they felt the market pressures to get a factory tune ready ASAP. This puts Bill @Delicious at a peculiar situation trying to market/sell his own updated tunes without bashing on the KW factory tune (which he developed himself) too much. In all honesty after spending almost a week driving with the factory tune, it isn't all that bad (and obviously still delivers the HP/torque). As I get more familiar & confident with the nuances of the factory tune's power delivery (and as the ECU does some learning itself) I am having a smoother driving experience with it. I am still very interested in getting a non-factory tune sometime in the future, but just trying to get an objective understanding of the improvements made. It actually seems like just a handful of folks here have experienced BOTH the factory tune and any more optimized tunes. The primary selling point KW had on me was that it will eventually be CARB legal since I live in Cali. Having seen the other S/C kits get their CARB EO #s I figured it was relatively low risk that KW wouldn't get theirs as well.

mostly i just giggled when within a few hours of posting that i installed the kit on the ots tune i had a pm from delicious hawking his better tune. I mean shit, paid for a tune, haven't even driven it a day yet and you want me to spend the full price to upgrade from your apparently subpar tune to your better tune? It was good enough to stamp your logo on the ecutek box on it wasn't it?

yet there have been people that have complained of waiting days for responses to questions.

If you need a carb tune, you should investigate alternatives to KW. The JR guys, for instance, seem happier with their carb tune than the KW guys.

If you don't need a carb tune, don't buy one!

Well I'm glad I skipped the KW "tuned" kit and went straight to Bill. I'm very satisfied with his tune and let's just say his "basemap" made more power than some of the guys here on the east coast with custom tunes from notible "tuners" with full headers/exhaust. I just have a 2.5" catback... Just wish he wasn't on the west coast so I can get a custom dyno tune.

I spoke with Bill @DeliciousTuning over PM and he said they're now offering 33% off retail for the price of a KW tune ($300 --> $200) for anybody who purchased the factory tune from Kraftwerks.

Even then...I'm sure some of the guys with the JR kit will likely want a more aggressive tune to use since they already have that exemption sticker slapped on there I know that if the factory kit for KW is ever certified, there won't be anything stopping anyone from slapping on the CARB sticker for the base tune and then simply reflashing for a custom one.

I never even thought about the whole CARB thing being the reason to not update the tune. Man I am so happy that crap continues to stay a California problem.
