Does anybody know if the Manual transmission is directly shifted or with a linkage/hydraulics? You can't really tell from the pics.

Actually, that's the picture I had in mind when I wrote that. It's far too obtuse of an angle and cropped too tight to make a conclusive statement regarding available space, especially under the engine. We have no idea how exactly they shaped the firewall, oil pan, or exhaust manifolds, let alone where the radiator actually is, and if it's on an angle like the Miata. That said, the picture makes it look like there's about a foot of space between the intake manifold and the firewall. I'd call that a ton of space.

Sounds really promising! Thanks for the info Buggy51. Certainly do hope that the IS-F transmission tech trickles down into the FT86, heard that the shift times on that particular gearbox hits 200miliseconds, which is astonishing for an Auto.

yes, that pic alone is inconclusive. but now we have the aerial view diagram to cross reference with. to me, it looks much tighter than i had previously thought.
