Was wondering what the heck y’all were talking about, looked over at your user name and spit wine all over my phone. Congrats on the car!

Latest round of allocations hit for NE district last night and no news for me though at least my dealer confirmed I was the first to put a deposit down in the area.

I’ve been calling around to see who has cars, funny how quick they are to mention “but we have an automatic coming that nobody has claimed! Interested?!” You love to see it.

Surprisingly I wish Toyota and Subaru can follow GM's lead ..

Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that in connection with some of these announcements and launches, a small number of Dealers have engaged in practices that do not support a positive sales experience for our customers. This puts our collective interests at risk and generates negative press that reflect poorly on GM’s brands and your dealerships. Specifically, it has come to our attention that some dealerships have attempted to demand money above and beyond the reservation amounts set in GM’s program rules and/or have requested customers to pay sums far in excess of MSRP in order to purchase or lease a vehicle. -GM North America President Steve Carlisle

I think the letter from Ford said it best when it said "Guys, if we don't sell the damn cars at the price advertised Tesla, Rivian and others that manage to sell direct to consumers are going to throw our collective asses in the back of their trucks and haul us to the OEM junkyard."

I may be paraphrasing....

Dealership I have an "order" through received 3 base MT, 3 Premium AT. Guess I'll be waiting for their next allocation whenever that happens...

Did they get 6 cars allocated at once?

And what the heck is going on with all these AT's. Sub and Toyota talk about 85% manual take rate... then why does it seem like half the cars out there are auto?

I guess part of it is that almost every manual ends up spoken for before they're even on a boat.

Subaru may have had an 85% manual rate, but Toyota's was heavy on the AT side of the market.

EDIT: fredzy, here's an article showing that only about 33% of Toyota 86s are manual.

They have 6 cars "in stock" on their site. I don't know if they're in bound, on the lot, or all spoken for. VIN's are displayed.

Yes.
No problems finding an AT in any color/trim combo you'd like for MSRP because they're already starting to sit on dealership lots;
whereas some MT color/trim combos have multi-month wait lists with people looking/buying cross-country.

Great example that "steady state" is not the same as "initial".
Too bad Toyota USA are dumb enough to not predict that the initial demand will be heavily skewed towards enthusiasts.
Now their otherwise most loyal customers are getting screwed over by dealers.

The irony of that is, when it was still Scion, Jack Hollis(I think he's still with Toyota USA) when he brought the FRS to Jay Leno for promotion, Jay asked him which would sell better manual or automatic? Jack actually said he expected the manual to sell better initially.

That said I don't know how the Scion FRS sales, ignoring the 86 numbers because they're later, ended up being with the manual:auto ratio. If Jack was correct that more manuals were sold earlier...it then is baffling as to why Toyota wouldn't follow suit as there is a pattern established.

Very well put. Any product planner worth their salt (I work in an OEM with product planners on a regular basis) should have seen this coming from a mile away.

I’m seeing half and half in my state. It’s the Premium/MT/Color combo that’s hard to nail down here. Also I’m seeing more Premium than base around here.

“Coast Privilege” :-)

Congrats to everyone that has been able to pick up their GR86s on the East and West coasts! I call this “coasts privilege”

Being in the center of the USA has its disadvantages. Mainly for me having to wait longer than the rest of the country for my GR86.

On January 15th my dealer let me know it’s on a train to Kansas City and was in Laurel, Montana. Today I saw that my ETA changed to a later date of Feb 20thish. As far as I know no GR86’s have landed here in my region. I wonder if a train went down or maybe they’re waiting on trucks for delivery perhaps. Even though the weather isn’t the greatest here it would be fun to cruise around…

It feels more like 4/5 cars are AT for Toyota.
