The delay was caused by the gasket compound they use to seal the engine up. Apparently Toyota uses a black compound which dries fast. They were instructed only to use a Subaru compound which is gray and more runny. After getting a hold of this compound and using it, they tested the car and it ran fine. They later found out that the gray compound takes longer to harden and it had run all over. So I guess they are doing some cleaning but no more Check Engine light according to the tech. I'll update my repair progress to the CEL list thread after I try it tomorrow.
There is the absolute most remote chance that I'll get my car back tomorrow as well.

Then I can move on with my CSR to the HPFP chirp...

I bet they were getting to thinking they were done with me.

Sorry, dudes. Quality doesn't take a back seat.

10:00a has come and gone, which was the first delivery window. 2:00p is the next target.

If that one comes and goes, the "tomorrow" promise is busted.

Good thing I wasn't expecting Subaru to come through on something they said they would do. Sitting tight for 2:00...sigh.

Edit: who wants to bet they didn't pay for Saturday delivery, and the tech doesn't see my part until Monday. Oh well, still an improvement over that 20th business.

Pleasant surprise: the part actually arrived!

Wow, something actually went right.

Now we need to do the repair, test, and make sure the issue is actually resolved

Then...cricket time.

So does this fix last "forever" or will it show up after a couple of miles again? If nothing is better or upgraded with the new part, then why wouldn't it fail again? If they just replace with exactly the same part?

Just got mine back, from the service report it looks like the ones they are pulling out are machined incorrectly. Maybe not even be visible to the eye but I guess a few of them were made wrong and they are replacing them with ones that are up to spec.

I got the premium extended warranty and 2 months of payments, considering I've been out of the car for over a month, I suppose it's fair. I did lose the last month of summer I would have liked to have had the car for though.

The money figure is equal to your monthly car payment amount. So, it will vary from person to person.

Interesting, if the part is machined incorrectly, how is the ECU supposed to fix it besides revised sensor tolerances? It would also seem that some who have had the part replaced only to experience the CEL again, had apparently received another incorrectly machined part.

What part exactly is the culprit?

After following this thread so far, i can't imagine how difficult it is for the engineers in Japan to decipher wtf is going wrong with the US spec cars. I'm sure they've been gathering data like crazy, and hopefully have found the root cause. Seems like they were throwing parts at the problem hoping it would go away.

From what I am hearing...the first TSB was a way to direct dealers to target specific components for replacement. Those components were sent to the engineers for testing and inspection. Now that they have been able to inspect & test these suspect components they have found they root cause. If it does turn out to be a reflash or new ECU then it was never a mechanical issue.

The chirp is not a defect, it's a normal operational noise when using ethanol/methanol fuels. Does not affect operation or longevity...can't fix what isn't broken...
