They won't cover it if caused by a paint chip.

Is there a way to tell for sure that's from a paint chip?

I mean, it probably is since it's right on the edge basically where the roof meets the windshield, but how obvious is it to tell?

From the picture it looks like a rock split the paint and water got underneath and stayed there. I would still try to get them to fix it. Probably the rustiest car in California!

Yeah, that's sort of my guess as well.

Well, I guess if/when they ever tell me they received the new gauge cluster hood for me and I schedule an appointment for that then I'll point this out and see what they can do.

PS, yes, fix it now. My old Subaru went from some surface rust to 'the back fell off' in about a year and a half.

Or punch a hole and claim the 7 year perforated corrosion warranty.

It's a struggle to stay ahead of it wherever road salt is copiously applied. Sneaks into all those little tiny seams and threads. :/

DANG, spike021, just rough it up with your SO's emery board, clean it up with some alcohol and ask your SO to hit it with some touch up paint.

All done.

You guys ah picken on ol @spike021 - again -

OK, spike021, allow me to help you out. An SO (Significant Other) in this case could be your mother, sister or girl friend. An emery board is a small, stiff piece of cardboard with like sandpaper on one (or both) sides.

So, ask a female in your life to sand all the rust off with the emery board, clean off any wax with nail polish remover (be quick with that stuff) and then paint the area with a close matching nail polish.

Then, take her to a movie, buy her popcorn and a soda and maybe she will let you "pet" her chest, in the dark movie theater -
