Happy Eighth Anniversary!
Today's the eight anniversary of me picking up the car so time to update the 'tracking statistics' below.
Nothing really to report. I'm not having any issues, and to date there has been zero dollars spent on mechanical repairs. The fuel economy continues to go up, as I have averaged over 35MPG in the last 12 months. i have no real explanation of that as my driving hasn't changed in any appreciable way. The Chevy Astro miles, for those that don't know, is the number of miles my last DD had on it before it lost a motor bearing and died a horrible death. Oh, and speaking of the Astro, based on it's lifetime fuel usage of 17.5MPG, I have saved $10,834 in fuel costs since switching to the 86.

I wish you many more trouble-free years.
I pay as much attention to fuel efficiency even with FI and regularly get 30+ mpg in the city. Other than that valve spring replacement out of warranty, I had no other expense on mechanical repairs either. |

Why do I have the feeling that this random question in a build thread will just lead to spam?

Sort of like the fact that today was tomorrow yesterday but tomorrow will be today when today is yesterday.

I have the ceramic coating on the new car. I knew I was not getting some magic paint protection but simply a coating that is supposed to help keep the car cleaner. The difference it had made is so marginal that I will not get it again. I could have got a truck load of good wax for what it cost me and had the same effect.

First hand: My son said do it to my Dodge diesel. Why, because I leave it outside. Ok, spent a grand and did it. washes easily, looks good.
Driving through Chicago and an idiot thinks that he will get around me by using the merge lane on the left. The lane is ending and he has a choice of concrete wall or me as he stands on the brakes. Brushed the wall and my back panel. I went well s***, he dove to the right to get out of there. Got into Indiana and had a chance to look at the damage. Light blue paint. Got to Florida and much to my amassment the blue paint came off with polish. There is a mark where the SUV got the rubber fender extension but that is it. I believe. |

Hey, no worries, I'm glad something is getting posted to my thread. It's been so long since I did anything meaningful with my car to talk about, I almost forgot about the thread myself!
As far as the coating, I sort of wish I had done it as paint protection. I'm assuming it would have helped some, and I'm not a fan of the 3M plastic coatings. My hood looks horrible, almost to the point I can't stand it any more. If i do get a respray on it, I may try and do a ceramic coat myself. And before someone suggests a wrap, I just don't think it would hold up to my DD.
