Raced against a new Civic Type R driven by Danny Kao last Saturday at Hershey. He was on 285s in the front and 245 in the rear. Also in class was Steve Berrodin in his national level BRZ

Bought the BRZ a month ago and is the first manual transmission car I've owned since 2013. It was my second race in 5 years. Second in this car. First on this set up
My 2014 BRZ has a Greddy EvoGT cat-back and 17X7 BBS RK wheels on 225/45/17 Falken Azenis RT615K running 31psi front and 30 rear and thats it. No Konis (or otherwise) or FSB yet.

My fastest raw time was 44.184 (with a cone bringing it to 46.184) and my fastest clean run was 44.421

The civic was on 285 RE71R in the front and 245 RE71R in the rear. Danny ran a 42.482 as a best.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with how this platform performs and look forward to racing a full season in DS in 2018.
Getting 3rd in class and finishing as close as I did to the top two drivers was a great way to finish out the season and have me itching to start racing early in the 2018 calendar year.
Can't wait to see what this car can do with more seat time, a properly set up suspension and some better rubbers.

I have a quick question.

I'm trying to convince my wife on the benefit of Koni shocks. Has anyone quantified the benefit vs stock shock? Like n seconds on a 60 second course.

For reference it's a stock 10 series with OEM crash bolts, Strano front bar, nameless track pipe muffler delete and Enkei rpf1's with 225/45r17 rivals. Only run one season with the car, but have usually been in the top 20 pax times (With 60-120 entrants). I know I'll never be as quick as Pallotta, but I want to try.

I have some Ferodo DS2500 pads and ARP studs going on over the winter break, so shocks are really the last thing left to upgrade.

Thanks!

It depends on so many others things, as well.

Have you ever done a driving school (Evo or otherwise)?

I haven't been but I've heard good things and honestly, even to just get the seat time would be good. I know that is what my next investment is....in me. I have honestly never once ran a non-competitive, practice autox run. I am going to try and find some local test and tunes early this spring, as I am going to campaign a full calendar season in one region (may try 2 depending upon dates) including some national tour events.

Konis can only help, in my opinion. I just invested in them myself for next season, and will be getting a strano bar, as soon as I see one pop up for sale.

The thing is, Koni's aren't even half as good as something like a MCS setup or Moton setup, that top names run. But it can only help.

I had crap tires, not the lightest, not the heaviest wheels and a 5 year hiatus from autoX to end up 1.5 seconds back from a nationally competitive driver in a superior car in my 2nd event back, last weekend. Konis definitely could have and will help. But like I said, next investment for me is a driving school or some test and tune days.

I'll have a set of six month old Konis for sale by the end of November. PM me if interested.

Konis give you some adjustability, but the stock shocks are pretty good. It sounds like you have all the other standard allowable mods, so if it's in your budget, they will be an improvement. Don't expect to get much more than 0.5 seconds on a 60 second course from the Konis vs stock shocks... Some sites may have no difference at all between them. You gain more from the best available tires than anything else.

What's the preferred brake pads combination for a good balance?

If you're already paxing top 20 in a competitive region without the shocks you can probably drive well enough to take advantage of them, might take a few events to dial in but once you do it should be a benefit.

How are the DS2500's as a daily pad? The Gloc R6 on our mini are much louder than I expected although a good bedding in would probably help. I'm trying to kill my street pads quickly, they feel like they fade after a few runs as I've gotten more aggressive on the brakes even on the mpss I'm beating up for practice.

Edit: @Ribface typically same pads front and rear are used, some have tried one way or the other but most stick with equal. The car's abs system has a mind of its own so staggered pads don't usually end up radically changing the car but the pedal dance does, but at this point I'm split on whether it's good or not for autox and I'm not currently using it.

An intermediate autocross school is on the books for next year. And maybe some events in neighboring regions for the seat time.

In my 3 years I've been to one novice school as a student and then got roped into instructing the past 2 years. So haven't really had much seat time outside of the one test and tune day our club holds.

I guess I'll be budgeting for some Konis before next season then. Will probably go with the SSC sealed struts in case I decide to move to that class in 2019. Is there a good baseline setting to start from with these shocks?

The DS2500s are pretty noisy in cold weather if you live in that climate and they dust a bit. They are a pretty outstanding pad for autocross. I had 3+ seasons on them and think they will last another 2+ seasons.

Koni settings depend on sway bar choice and driving style.

Hurrah
Oh my god, this so made my day, maybe even my week! I'm so happy and filled with joy, haha .
However is it really official? because it says "the SAC recommends". Does it usually mean that it's a done deal?

I'm going to give my car a big hug after work
